All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Toon Put Bumper Price Tag On Ameobi

Newcastle are set to demand a further fee of £4m from Stoke if the high-flying Championship outfit want the player to spearhead their attack next term.

Thats about 4.5 million more than he's worth. Derby are supposedly sniffing after him as well and with a bit of luck that's where he will land.

A couple of funny ones I saw today:

Daily Express said:
Cracking news for Chelsea fans.

Not only will Inter Milan be taking Florent Malouda off their hands this summer, but they will even make a profit on the Frenchman, whose picture sits beneath the dictionary definition of 'flattering to deceive'.

The Daily Express claims that Inter will pay £15million for the winger, who Chelsea bought for £13.5million last summer. Atletico Madrid are also apparently interested.

The Sun said:
Alan Smith's move to Newcastle hasn't quite gone according to plan. Largely because he's been rubbish.

However, rubbishness has never stopped players going to Scotland, and The Daily Star this morning claims that Rangers will make a bid for Smudger in the summer.

They reckon that Keggy hopes a deal will include Spanish centre-half Carlos Cuellar, who has been really rather good at Ibrox this season. But then again so was Jean-Alain Boumsong.

Meanwhile, The Sun claims that Newcastle will replace Smith with Dean 'the new Alan Shearer' Ashton. Could happen.

:p

Couple of stories linking us with cut price moves for Quaresma and Mancini, both probably bs though.

Quaresma supposedly could be available for as little as £5m if Porto get charged with match-fixing and there's been reports that Mancini is looking at buying out the last year of his deal making him available for around £4m.

I suppose there could be some truth in the Mancini story as is came out that we bid for him in the summer but couldn't agree a deal with Roma.

LOL make a profit on Malouda. teehee.Quaresma and Mancini would both be good buys but i don't know how they'd adapt to the pl. at that price though it'd be silly not to.

The Quaresma story sounds complete bs and total speculation. Even if Porto are done for match-fixing and relegated ect, there would still be a huge list of clubs after him which would keep his price up. Also i can't see Rafa putting up with Quaresma.

Undecided on Mancini then? ;)

Quaresma is certainly a talent but i'd worry over his temperament. Also regardless over what happens with Porto, he'll cost a fortune after what you paid for Nani and Anderson.

Mancini may be a bit theatrical but you'll be hard pushed to find a top winger that isn't.

I'd definantly take either if they were available but the one i'd really want us to sign is David Silva. He's an incredible talent and being able to play on either wing or just off the striker helps too.

I've seen enough of Mancini in the last year to form an opinion, yes ;). Honestly can't stand him.

The thing with Anderson (primarily, as he cost more and he's from Porto) is that he was purchased on potential. He was highlighted as potentially the best young player in the world or something and as a result he cost ridiculous money. He would have cost even more this summer though and it was a case of buying him now before anyone else did and I'm glad we did.

It's mad when you pay £19-£21m (depending on sources) for a player who had a broken leg last year. On another note, FM2008 has him down as £30m after several seasons and criteria are met. Dunno how reliable that is though :p.

I think Mancini could be put in the same catagory as Malouda. A winger who never really does anything major, but gets major plauditz anyway. As I'm sure you know, I was hyper critical of Malouda's ability last summer when you were linked with him. I think Benitez was listening to me because you dodged a bullet there.

Silva is a FM legend, but he hasn't really delivered this season at all as well as the rest of the Valencia squad. Silva is undoubtedly talented, but I think he's another player who's guilty of being over-hyped by Football Manager.

Anderson may well have huge potential but if Porto are demanding £20m for a youngster, they're likely to want at least the same for their 'star' player.

Mancini certainly isn't a superstar but there seems to be a shortage of top wingers and he's one of the better ones around that may be available and potentially at £4m you can't go wrong.

As for Malouda, i suppose you've got to give him time. Like Mancini he's not a superstar but he has showed his quality in glimpses (goal vs you lot in the CS final) and could still prove a decent buy next season. And it was more likely that Rick Parry was listening to you rather than Benitez; Benitez was keen on getting him in but we took to long over it.

All players are over-hyped on FM but ive seen this guy play with my own eyes and he's certainly a huge prospect. My only concern with him would be whether he'd adapt but he showed vs Chelsea last year that he could put up with the likes of Terry et al.

Why would the price we paid to Sporting for Nani have any relation to what you pay for Queresma from Porto?

I agree that a comparison with the Anderson price might well be on the cards to any proposed bids, but I think the price of Nani has little to do with it imo

I really hope Utd dont buy any more portuguese based players this summer, we have a great multi-cultural club at the moment with players from all around the globe with a core of British talant (experienced and youth alike) - to get a few more from one region might ruin that and the dressing room could become seperated

It's pretty common for clubs to say 'you paid X for this player, we think our player is better/worth more, therfore we want X + whatever extra on top'.

Not for relatively unknown/untested players

Maybe for transfers within the same league

all imo of course

BTW rumour today/last night was the potential transfer from Real to Chelsea of a particular ex Man Utd striker for £12m

Not only would I be really annoyed at this in regards to one of Utd's best strikers playing for The Russian, but also Madrid making a profit on him

I guess I would also see it as a bit of a betrayal by RvN - but hardly surprising after how he left the club (would certainly be a bargain for Chelsea and he would definitely get a hat full of goals if his injuries didnt get to him first)

I think RvN would rather go to Italy Frank. It's an honour to play in the top 3 leagues and whilst quite a few have done it now, he's a different class.

Looks pretty certain that we've made a £10m bid for Barry. The only way i can justify the bid is either Alonso leaving or Barry coming to play somewhere down the left. Not sure what to make of it really.

edit\ Just came up on SSN that O'Neil has confirmed the bid but said its not a cash offer but players in exchange. Carson and Riise are the obvious 2.
