All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

I gotta say i just cant see the point in signing Barry, the lads a good player, but we have plenty in the middle of the park, Lucas,Plessis,Gerrard,Mascherano etc.Barry hasnt played at leftback for years, although he was very good there, i think he is happier in the middle.

We need someone to play with Torres, Gerrard isnt good enough against the top sides imo, a winger and a fullback is a must.

Tbh, we have a very industrious side at the moment, we need some intelligence in that side, weve gotten better with the acquisition on Torres, but in reality, we are still 4th way behind the mancs, despite having the best striker we have had for years:(

Agree with everything you say there

Diouf has came out and said he's definantly leaving Bolton at the end of the season and that he wants to stay in England. Not sure who'd take that ****.

He's an infinitely superior player to what he was when he left you. He's a better player than Benayoun, Pennant or Kuyt on the wing, I wouldn't be too surprised if he came back if Benitez could wangle a cheap deal.

The fans wouldn't have it, Liverpool is the last place he'd go to.

I wouldn't say he's that much better, he's at a smaller club where he doesn't have to perform every week which makes the difference and saying that he wasn't that bad for us either, he was just a ****. He's not better than Benayoun is on the wing but has more end product than Pennant does. No chance of him coming back though.

Why would Arsenal get Johnson? The way I see it they have enough young midfielders like him and instead require a replacement for Flamini since it looks like he will leave.

As for the Kenwyne Jones rumours..... lol

I can't see Newcastle signing Riise, it just seems weird. Keegan said he only wanted players for the first team and not squad players and at the moment I'd say Enrique was miles better than Riise (despite all paper reports saying he's our weakest link.)

As for Messi to Chelsea, it's never gonna happen :p but would be nice to see Messi and Ronaldo in the same league.

Care to name them all?

Nunez
Josemi
Pellegrino
Morientes
Zenden
Kromkamp
Bellamy
Palletta
Gonzalez
Aurelio
Pennant
Voronin
Kuyt

I know a few were free transfers but they were/are still a waste of wages.

Edit- I apologise as well then :p, I didn't realise it was light-hearted. I still stand by my view of Benitez in the transfer market though, I think he's one of the best coaches around, but he can't seem to sign decent players.

Nunez - Part of the Owen deal (he wasn't wanted either) but sold for a profit
Josemi - Stop gap signing, £2m
Pellegrino - Free transfer to make up the numbers at cb
Morientes - Huge disappointment
Zenden - Free transfer that done a job
Kromkamp - Brought in as a swap for Josemi as it was the only way of getting rid of him, sold for a profit
Bellamy - Done a decent job and sold for a profit
Palletta - £2m youngster who didn't make it but effectively sold for a profit
Gonzalez - Didn't make it but ended up costing £2m and sold at a profit
Aurelio - Decent player when he's fit
Pennant - Done a job but ultimately not up to it
Voronin - Rubbish but free
Kuyt - Big disappointment but not as bad as some make out

Only Kuyt and Morientes have been failures that have had decent money spent on them. The only other 2 who've had any sort of money spent on them (Pennant and Bellamy) have done a job and if Pennant were to go, i'd imagine we'll get most if not all our £6m back. All the others haven't cost more than £2m and you're going to be hard pushed to find top 4 players for under £7-8m.

Any other player Rafa's spent more than £5m on have been successful; Crouch, Reina, Agger, Skrtel, Alonso, Babel, Mascherano, Torres and even Benayoun.
