What did you think when you first used / saw the internet ?

First used it at UNI in 1995, a mate directed me to amanda's table chat rooms and that was the first time I missed a lecture lol. Remember wondering wtf dose asl mean. Internet at home, first time in 1997 on a 14-400 using demon. cant remember when but I got myself a beast speed monster of a 56kUSR job. Where did this 20mb cable come from it just seems so ridiculous thinking back, 56k got me AQ2 and a whole lot of headshot lovin in 1999. When I first heard a modem it took me back to speccy/amstrad/c64 school days.

The first time I saw the internet was in 1995 in college.

I took a quick look through a few sites and thought it was crap.

I seem to remember sitting there thinking "I can't think of anything to search for".
I had a sheltered upbringing.

End of '93/ beginning of '94 .... I was at Uni and I was in one of the labs with a couple of friends. We'd been sending emails to various people, (Pegasus Mail for DOS), and then my mate Rhys showed us how to download the Doom demo from a ftp site at Imperial College London (I think).

Things kinda went down hill from there and, well shall we say we tended to bend the Uni rules on use and access to the kit and network so we could keep up with the latest advancements over the next few years including lots of betas of things like netscape and our own installation of wfwg 3.11 so we could add the win32 extensions :)

First time was in secondary school maybe around 1998.
Dont know first thing I did but sites I visited through the early years were,
gamerevolution downloaded mac demos and played them all constantly and remember trying to download deus ex at around 90meg i couldnt get it to ever complete took over 6hrs :(. , neopets, shockwave you could play games etc, chat rooms, cant think of anything else

when i got 512kb 2003+ I was so excited and amazed and really got into pc gaming

AOL chat rooms, used to love going into the Yank chat rooms for a bit of banter before being kicked off, that and pRon :D

damn right

one of my mates at school was loaded and his dad got him *** 'internet' very early on

We all went round to his house when we were drunk and discovered the AOL chat rooms

went straight onto the US christian bible bashing type ones

"Hey guys I've got a question for you; what happened when Jesus went to mount olive?" ....." Popey kicked the **** out of him" etc....

basically the first thing we did was troll chat rooms then look at porn - we all thought the interweb was fantastic.

can't remember the first time, initially used it for music and game cheats though

hated 56k soooo much, was so good getting 512k downloaded a lot of stuff

umm I honestly cant remember the first time I used it... But Used to download tons of shareware/freeware at school, armed with 20 odd Floppy Disks then get them home to find the data was all unreadable after them going through the torture of a school bag..

I remember being absolutely amazed that a webpage had travelled across the globe from the US in half a second. I think people fail to see how awesome this is still today!

I used to use it for pointless things, lokoing at hot woman but not findnig any real decent porn sites, bit of warez monkeying of noob proportions..
Was great to buy cheap n64 games off it too.
Then i just cained Age of empires on it after a while, then rogue spear, and when i really got into it DoD and CS.
It was also great for downloading coursework.

ic24 ...free dial up - WOOP!.

Napster gave me the addiction, then found chat forums and irc.

Mostly nonsense but addictive none the less.

First exposure to the interweb? 1994 - school library computer. I connected to Yahoo! and searched for video games (why didn't I look for pron?). Found Sierra.com, found a chat room, saw girls were chatting - talked about my willy ;)

Ah, to be 15 again...

As PRESTEL probably doesn't count, it would have to be getting the Wireplay CD and straight onto their forums. I still remember that quarters phone bill coming in at over £300.
