All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

The more I read the more I'm not too bothered at the departure of Flamini and Hleb.

Flamini has always been a mercenary and as has been mentioned, for all of his fantastic ability with the ball, Hleb's end product is nothing short of shocking during the time he's been with us.

I'm assuming Hleb's reason for going is a lack of silverware? Well **** off quite frankly. You've got to take some of the burden for the lack of a trophy.

From a footballing perspective Arsenal are, imo, one of the top three teams to be at in Europe and so if football is what its about then its not a problem. If its about the money then its the wrong club to be at.

Reading between the lines of Arsene's comments in the last few weeks though I wouldn't be suprised to see more substantial transfer market activity in the summer than we normally see.

Reports are that his wife hates London and doesn't see it as a home for them. It's not money as Arsenal want to offer him a better contract which he's happy with and I don't think it's silverware as he doesn't really strike me as that type of guy. I actually do think this has a lot to do with his wife as crazy as it sounds, he knows he's at the very best club in the world for his style of play and he's never complained about money etc. and it does seem like his wife wears the trousers :D he is a bit of a push over!

Also, he's 27 (28 in a few weeks I think?) so this is essentially his last deal of his career. Considering he gets kicked to high heaven in England he might actually just want to play in Italy for the change in football.

You never know, this could be his agent fuelling this to get a bit more money for his next deal from Arsenal, his agent has been known for being an absolute idiot anyway. It's hit and miss I think, at the moment it looks more likely he'll leave but he's only ever said he's delighted at Arsenal and wants to spend his career here. This could well be a case of his agent trying to persuade him into a better deal so he can get his final big paycheck as it doesn't seem to me that Hleb wants to leave ..

Henry- Semi final of the Champions league and third in the league, so slightly better than Arsenal have done this year.

Vieira- won the championship in his first season with juventus, then the next year he won the italian super cup with Inter and the league title AGAIN.

Wiltord- Three league titles, and consecutive CL quarter Finals.

So I imagine what he is looking at in a change and a chance to win something.

vieira has never been the same dominant player that he was at arsenal, regardless of the success his club has achieved.

the same goes for pires, henry, edu ...none of them have lived up to their performances at highbury.

it is a team game, you can't judge individual performance by results of the team as a whole......i would have thought that was pretty obvious to most ppl :)

Isn't that a little hypocritical? You are judging Vieira for not being the same dominant player, then saying you can't judge individuals... But only the team... Vieira has been playing in teams that are winning Serie A every season...

Very easy to say 'ooo Hleb's only scored 11 goals in 3 seasons, easily replaceable' but unfortunately Hleb offers this team a great deal more than that. So let's say we replace Hleb with a goalscoring winger.. we might score a few more goals a season, but how many would we lose through not having Hleb dictate play? Okay so he's not the 'direct assister' a lot of the time, but he's usually the guy just before that, which is just as important. I wish there was a stat for that. Aside from that, Hleb is fundamental in the way we play, him and Fabregas allow us to play the way we do and if you take one or both out we lose all shape and our ability to create suffers massively.

Replacing him 'like for like' which is what Wenger always tries to do, will be pretty much impossible IMO.

ARSENAL could snap up whizkid Samir Nasri for just £12million this summer.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been put on red alert by Marseille's admission they will sell the France midfielder.

Awsome player plus added bonus he French he fit right in :) would be an excellent buy and at that price a snatch

Pretty sure he signed a new contract pretty much this week, am I wrong :(?

I didn't even try and explain Hleb's worth to the people who undermined his value - if you see it you see it, if you don't then you don't

Kinda right however.

Despite tying down Nasri to a new deal until 2012, the French club have admitted their star player has a clause in his contract that would force them to sell him for £12m.

Marseille president Pape Diouf revealed: "Samir could leave each season, if we receive an offer in between £12m and £16m.

Why would they admit there was a clause for £12m yet expect an offer between 12 and 16...

@ Hlebio

Your joking? No way. Gerrards worth at least £30 mil and even then its pointless letting him go. Who else would we get?

We need to add more players of Gerrards and Torres quality to have any chance of winning the title.

His ball control is second to none in the Premiership and what he offers is not always noticable agreed.

On the other hand though for the amount of ball he see's during a game you would really still expect there to be much more end product. Its noticable also that quite regularly attacks will break down around Hleb due to him making the wrong decision or trying to be too clever. A failing of the midfield generally though more often than not. Its interesting to note that after Fab, Rosi is our top scorer from the midfield and has barely kicked a ball this season.

I'd rather see him stay than go if just for the general moral of the squad as he seems a popular player in the camp.

I hate football agents, scum of the earth along with chavs. All they seem to do is release stories to the media so their player gets a better pay deal hence they get a bigger pay cheque. I'm actually confident Hleb will stay, we need the core players to stick around. We can always get another DM in although I think it might be time to give it to Diaby, or give it back to Gilberto. Last season he was amazing there!

Nope, not joking at all. I happen to think Gerrard is perhaps the most overrated player on the planet.

One of the best things Liverpool could do, for their chances of winning the Prem, is selling Gerrard. He's a headless chicken in central midfield, and not anywhere near the class of Roy Keane, Vieira or Ballack in their pomps. For the price some teams would pay for Gerrard you could get 2-3 excellent players and really thrust your chances of winning the league forward a few notches.

That's just not realistic, selling Gerrard would mean spending all the money raised on a similarly able replacement, there's not 2 or 3 excellent players around for £25m, especially with the inflated prices CMs are commanding these days. If Gerrard did go and Barry came in for the mooted £12m or so that would leave £13m to spend on a truly quality winger and I can't think of many that they could get for that price.
