Great, weekends out...

apparently medical procedures are extremely cheap as well as electronics - like a hair transplant for £400 or a dvd and sat nav head unit for your car for £200

Consumer electronics are around the same price. In my multiple trips to Dubai i've never found anything worth buying where the price difference is enough to make transporting the thing home worthwhile. Mobile Phones are the only thing that have a substantial difference in price, and that's only really in that big french supermarket in The Mall of Emirates.

Medical Procedures, well it's all private so i'd imagine you get some lovely cheap little places up in Sharjah or somewhere. Cant say i'd like to use them though. They have a world leading hospital for cancer treatment though headed by Dr Rizyk, where my sister was treated for almost 2 years. Wouldnt say it was cheap though :P i guess you get what you pay for.

The only real area where prices will surprise you is food. You can eat for very little money. Since you're only going for a day, and i'm assuming you dont want to spend a fortunre, i'd reccomend Shazzam in the MoE. You can look left and watch all *** chefs in the middle of the restaurant cooking your food, or look right and watch people snowboarding on the indoor ski slope (which, inciedntally, is awesome, and not very expensive)

"One man has even been jailed for possession of three poppy seeds left over from a bread roll he ate at Heathrow Airport."

I know you put a smilie at the end so you didnt really mean it, but that sentiment seems to be the dominant one in this thread. What people are forgetting is that Dubai is one of the fastest growing and richest cities in the world, and thousands of very rich foreigners live there for tax reasons. I very much doubt they police strict muslim law there, they arent stupid, they know how much they need outside money.

They are quite anal about drugs though, theres been some high profile news reports, the poppy seeds, someone with under a gram of something on his shoe tread.
We know its a developing place etc but it doesnt take those cases away.

Hookers are not that cheap, my mate was there a month ago, they were the same price as everywhere else, ~ £40 for an ugly girl.

Basically it's like a hot London by the sea, with more white people. It's not that cheap anymore, although if you can find where the Indian labourers shop it is - the rest of Dubai is all western-style shopping malls now, with western prices.

The Bur Dubai area retains some charm however. Take a water taxi from there across the creek to the Gold Souck.

lmao at the responses

seriously its as if you think all muslim countries are still in the 1800's where everything is prohibited

dubai is the number 1 resort to go to for the best hookers in the world

yes hookers

they will be waiting in most hotel lobby's and bars

you just take your pick and take them up to your room

and check this out they are extremely cheap too like £40 for the whole night and these girls are russians

also alcohol will be served at most hotels and there are hookers in the streets too, so if you see some russian bird calling you over, she isnt gonna ask for directions unless its back to your hotel room

the country is extremely modern and the laws are relaxed unless your an absolute muppet trying to smuggle a kilo of coke up your behind, which in any country would get you into a lot of bother

seriously though its good for shopping, sight seeing and hookers

its good for fakes too like watches etc

some places can be extremely expensive though, but it is a very good holiday destination

You seem to know an awful lot about the hookers...
