Lionofjud, Asprilla summed it up. the 4280 and 428 are not FULL 1080p ready, but then again the entry level 50inch 1080p pioneer will cost you more than double the 4280 an double the 508. Is 1080p worth thousands of pounds ? Il let you work that out
I saw a sharp model yesterday and the quality did seem really crisp. It was set next to a pioneer, however the pioneer was only set to transmit pioneer's own demo blu ray and the shop asst. refused to change the input.
however I am erring now more towards the pioneer sets so which tv?
Pioneer PDP428XD or Pioneer PDP4280XD?
i have narrowed it down to these 2 sets and apart from the 428XD offering picture in picture (which is not really a must) the main diff seems to be price. However the 428XD also has Intelligent Brightness control - what is the benefit of this? it it much different if this was not available (hence what picture quality difference is there between the 2 sets?)
A shop that doesn't let you change the input or let you compare with your own footage is very stupid, and I would advise trying a different store 'department store containing waitrose' for example is the one to try.
The 428 will produce the same picture as the 4280 but it has the ability to be calibrated by a professional [ISF calibration], which can make a big differnce, but will cost you around 300 notes.
I think you will be astounded by the picture quality of the 4280, I still am with mine.
Close your eyes, imagine 46" inches of full hd glory. Imagine what your mates will say when they come round. Forget about 720p vs 1080p, no?? Because you know the first question your mates will say. That is: "Is it Full Hd or Hd Ready"? Then imagine opening up the drawer of your htpc blu ray drive (or PS3) and plonking in "Transformers". You hit play, stand back, look your mates directly in the eyes and say "Full Hd............OF COURSE". You point out the benefit of 1 to 1 pixel mapping. "No downscaling going on here". You also point out the perfect 24fps playback. "No 3:2 pulldown here". But none of that matters. as there faces are frozen, for they are bewitched by the picture, as if a holy light has fallen down on them........................................
Or you good get a 720p
Erm my mates would tell me to shut the **** up and watch the film, and would be marvelling at the PQ anyway
lionofjub, please don't worry about 1080p, as when I compared loads of tvs over a 3 month period [and even took my PS3 into shops], the pio 4280 was still by the best tv at any distance.... YES 1080P FANBOIS, EVEN AT ABOUT 3-4 FEET. I game at about 6ft and the Pio produces a picture that makes the bravia, samsung 1080p tvs, and even the 1080p panasonic PZ70 RUN FOR THE HILLS. And before people talk about opinion [which is of course what everyone has on here] these tests were done with my PS3 in store with the tvs calibrated to produce a more realistic picture compared to the crap settings the stores have them at.
I would say only go for an LCD if you plan to use your PC a lot with the tv, or solely game on the set, sitting 4ft infront of it from dusk till dawn. But if you watch a fair amount of dvds, blu-rays, and most importantly the television, then go for the Kuro is all I can say.
Im not going to argue facts and figures and 1080p, and 3:2 pull down, and screenburn, the kuros are the best tvs out there. I spent an extra 500 notes on the kuro, which was 500 over my budget, just because after comparing it to the panasonic PZ 42 I had ordered in, it looked far better, and buying the inferior set would always annoy from that day forth.
O and finally about the 24fps, 3:2 pulldown etc, the kuro displays blu-rays smoother than ALL the other sets I saw. Just for reference I spent 2 months comparing many sets, and spent hours comparing the sets in every way with upscaled dvds, blu-rays, and freeview footage from all conceivable angles and distances.
You won't be disappointed
