All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Liverpool could turn their attention to Stewart Downing if their proposed move for Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry falls through.

I rather have Downing than Barry, however I still think Downing is a 'mid table' player.

Dammit, my Scott Carson Player Value Exchange Index is dropping rapidly. He was a nice flat ten million not so long ago, now Dean Ashton has jumped from 1.5 Scott Carsons to 2.8 almost overnight.

Who Downing? If so then yes he is :)

Oh hark. I'm not for one minute suggesting that Downing is good enough for Liverpool. Because he isn't. But to suggest he is crap, not good enough for a mid table side and also has a bad attitude is the biggest load of crap I've read on here in some time.

Downing was easily are most creative player last season. Nine league goals isn't bad going for a Midfielder who is supposedly crap.

Also, I'm not sure where this belief that he has a bad attitude and ego has come from. Each player at Boro is expected to do a minimum number of hours per season doing community and charity work. Downing has always done way above the minimum amount. Whenever I've met him he has never come across as having a ego at all. Always has time to speak to fans. Lad I know who used to play for Boro said that he's one of the few players to stay behind after training to improve on elements of his game. That's hardly a player who comes across as having an ego and bad attitude.

Now if it was a simple misunderstanding and people had got Cattermole and Downing mixed up then fair enough.

Saha is injured again? Thought he was fully fit (not match fit obviously) for the final - ohh well no surprise really

Don't think there is any truth in it.

Liverpool has to stop living in the past. Downing might not be a world class player but you don't see them queuing up outside Anfield either.

Firstly why pay £12m for Downing when we can get a better player from abroad for £5-7m? And secondly we've not got a problem attracting players, affording them is the problem.

What a load of crap.

Really, a good friend of mine looks after the players and does a lot of the match day organisation for borough. This person has seen him for a good few years. Lets say he has issues.

When I discussed with Nokkon off forum the stuff I cannot repeat on here, he assured me he had heard the same stuff as rumours.

He's been pampered and ran after his whole life, to be expected that he has a bit of an ego like most, but the stuff she's told me about him. I wouldn't want him in my team.

I hope Fergie has a word with Barca and offers Pique as part exchange for Eto'o rather than just selling him. Laporta has said that he could be leaving Barca this summer.

Pennant was better than Ronaldo not so long ago

Must be well over two years ago you are talking about - and even before that Ronny was showing he had the skill and he needed educating in not playing Continental football

In individual matches its possible - but Pennant has never really shown anything really amazing in any great run of games imo

Worth a punt - but not for too much , maybe we pay Barca £10m (so transfer is actually £16m - same price as Henry last season) due to the off season he has had

If its for any more then I would be more hesitant and would prefer a younger striker instead

Few reports tonight suggesting that Lampard has all but signed for Inter and it'll be completed after the CL final.

I read that from a dodgy website a couple of days ago - but wasnt sure about it, good for England but bad for team morale I would suggest (being one of the core chelsea players)
