I always think it's a huge shame the injuries redknapp got. He could have been a huge player both for liverpool and england. The one player of the spice boy era I actually didnt hate, well apart from through jealousy with his bird :)

He is a terrible pundit, always seems scared to critisize anybody.

Pretty much all pundits are like that though, really annoys me. Thing is though, whenever I watch Shearer on MoTD he always seems reluctant to defend Newcastle, as if he's scared everyone will be on his back, so he ends up over compensating.

Same with Hansen, he's all over United whenever they do well, but barely gives any praise to Liverpool in the same situation. Lawro is similar too, they don't wanna appear biased.

I don't think it's the case with Hansen, he'll credit Liverpool when necessary, that year you were excellent defensively he was all over you.

I do think Hansen is a closet Man Utd fan though, he actually loves Man Utd.

Phil Thompson on the other hand.....

:D

Now that's one man I genuinely like now. Didn't like him when he was at Liverpool (obviously), but he was never anything but passionate about his team and he wears his heart on his sleeve, I respect anyone who can take the ribbings he gets on Soccer Saturday and still do the job (and turn up next week :p). I'm not afraid to say I got him all wrong.

HAHA!! Off topic, but I've just had a flashback of Kenyon getting a losers medal. Good times, good times.

Unsurprisingly Joe Cole never.
God I hate him.

Feel really sorry for John Terry, he did so well to make the final, what a good man and a tough, tough lad. It's odd to say I genuinely feel sorry for Chelsea, no team deserved to lose it really, it was a great match of football.

As JohnnyG will no doubt be expecting, can't believe Chelsea cleared ANOTHER off the line, seriously... But Chelsea hit the woodwork twice in open play.

First half we should have wrapped it up, second half Chelsea were brilliant, extra time we perhaps edged it.

I thought VDS was the pretty poor, gave no confidence at the back, Rooney was diabolical. On the flip side, Ronaldo was phenomenal and the best player on the park by streets (so much for not turning up in the big games lads...) followed closely by Carrick who was exceptional (apparently he doesn't play well against the good sides according to some massively uninformed poster on here).

Edit: I realise I have made a contradiction in terms, but I don't care, I'm so happy!

Yeah not VDS best evening, but i feel the pitch had a bit to do with it- were a good few slips by players. Ronaldo was good, but certainly not "phenomenal". He exposed a small midfielder, albiet a top class one, playing out of position while staying away from Cole who keeps him in his pocket. "On the flip side", Essien also exposed him by getting involved when Ronaldo was nowhere to be seen.
I am one of the few that don't rate Carrick all that highly. He and scholes, who tired pretty early in the 2nd, had a good first half, with scholes getting on the ball more often than anyone. However a lot of that was down to how bad chelsea were. When Chelsea turned up in the 2nd half neither of them featured that much, which is why i don't rate Carrick as world class.

When you are winning all that is forgotten so i don't expect anyone to agree. But if/when ronaldo stops scoring 40+ goals a season people will start to question the UTD midfield, which barring Ronaldo hasn't been that impressive(by that i mean world class). For next season i would take Gerrard, Lampard, Ballack, Essien, Fabregas, Flamini, Hleb, Young, Masherano, Barry, Alonso ahead of the current UTD midfield/leftside.

Anyway that is all a bit too negative so i will leave and be quiet :D

Brilliant!!!!! fair play to chelsea for really shwoing up tonight! when ronaldo missed his pen i thought that was it but made £30 because i;d put the money on the table at the start of the shootout! anyway lots of respect to chelsea and particularly lampard but obviously i' chuffed we won! fitting tribute for the class of 58 i hope.

As you have said to me Rooney has gone backwards at manu and i've long been a believer that 99% of players dont get better. I've never believed all this look how good he is at 20, just think how good he will be at 27.

I totally agree with this.

People said exactly the same thing about M.Owen: "Look how good he is at 18. He will be the best in 5yrs time."

We all know how that turned out.

You have to judge a player irrespective of age (unless he is junior of course), but once they hit around 18, they should be judged on the same scale as older players.

Of course, then you get players like A. Shearer & D.Bergkamp who just get better with age and peak in their early 30s.

If a player is 16 and is great, buy him now, use him then in a few years time when he starts going downhill sell him on. Age really shouldnt be an excuse to play or not play a player.

Well done Man Utd.
Bad luck Chelsea.
Both teams played equally well, IMO and there really wasnt much to choose between them, though Chelsea did have more shots on goal, so based on that Chelsea should've won it. Over the course of the CL season though, Man Utd were more impressive and deserved to win the CL.

Wasn't able to watch the game due to work, but remembered it was on in time to just at the end of extra time so kept up with the penalties on the BBC website. Must have been fantastic to watch.

Almost every block and tackle made in midfield second half was Carrick, Scholes wasn't involved and Carrick wasn't involved in attacking, but defensively he was magnificent tonight.

He's a total unsung hero for Man Utd, if people specifically watched out for what he does they'd see just how incredible he is in that position. There's a reason he's the first name in midfield for Man Utd (2x Premiership winners and European Champions) and has just signed a new 4 year deal. It's because he IS that good.

Most goals scored. Least goals conceeded. They've done something right.
They put stats up and Carrick made more defensive tackles than Essien has all season (by a long way) and gave less free kicks away too.

For next season i would take Gerrard, Lampard, Ballack, Essien, Fabregas, Flamini, Hleb, Young, Masherano, Barry, Alonso ahead of the current UTD midfield/leftside.

Yes there are some fantastic midfielders around and I would certainly take Essien, Gerrard, Fabregas... you're getting ridiculous naming Flamini and Hleb to be fair, Barry isn't in the class of any of our midfielders, Alonso massively overrated. But the stats don't lie, over a season our midfield has been fantastic and our standout midfielders have been Anderson and Carrick.

Im pretty sure he was a Utd fan before joining us.

You make a good case and will not argue with you, as I too, am Man Utd.

I live in London and despise Chelsea with a passion. I actually hate them so much, you have no idea.

My mates a Boro fan and he literally loathes Chelsea like I've never seen anyone loath anyone. He's support an Al-Qaida XI before Chelsea.
Quite funny that his work colleagues buy him a Chelsea shirt every year for his birthday :p.
