Age of Conan

So I have had this game a couple of days now, I just hit level 20 and am finally off the n00b island and in a Cimmerian village. There are quite a few people here, plenty of places to buy goods, plenty of quests.

I have one complaint/query though...

I was led to believe that once this happened I would have freedom to travel all over Hyboria, but I can't seem to run more than a minute or two in any direction before I run into a village wall/fence or a mountain. I have a quest to talk to a bloke when I am level 30, same as the level 20 quest in Tortage.

Is it going to be like this every time I go somewhere new? Do I have to grind ten levels before I can explore a tiny bit more? I feel like I'm passing through levels/stages, I do not feel like I am in a huge world at all.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game so far. I am just greatly disappointed by the lack of freedom.

this is how it has been for me upto 69, the main thing that annoys me at this level is the lack of quests, me and a guild friend have been grinding for the past 4 levels now

Theres a wagoneer close to that riderik guy (speak to him when youre lvl 30), that will take you to Tarantia. This is how you travel from town to town mostly.
So I can't go to Tarantia until I am level 30?

Same question to you, if you have the time to let me know. :)

It's the exploring in new MMORPGs that I like most, quite worried now. Don't have the game yet either :p
Me too, I am going to be deeply saddened if I have to gain ten levels just to travel outside a small village. :(

You can go to Tarantia as soon as you leave Tortage. You can travel anywhere in the AoC world by using the Wagoneers. The 30 thing is a guide, to keep you in the right area for your level.

Thanks for letting me know, feel better already. :)

Still wish there was more free-roam in this game though. :(

It is a little overwhelming when you first leave tortage, you just need to have a poke about and get your bearings, soon as you know how to get about the zones and where the zones lead to, you will realise its a lot bigger than you first thought. I think I spent most of a day just exploring, going around the zones, seeing the instances on my own etc, was a lot of fun.

Isn't that what I just said?

Ok I can see how it could be misunderstood, I was referring to riderik when I said speak to him when you're level 30, as Ulfhedjinn had mentioned riderik as such.

OK, I honestly couldn't figure out what you're talking about here until it struck me and I was flabbergasted: YOU'RE STUCK IN CONNARTH VILLAGE FFS!! PICK UP A QUEST OR TWO AND GO OUTSIDE!!! Of COURSE you're gonna run into a village wall if you run for 2' in any direction - the village has a freaking fence around it! You're supposed to go out the GATE!

The game may be zoned but the zones are pretty massive. Conal's valley is a bit pathed but that's natural - it's a valley surrounded by impassable mountains after all. Standing on a mountaintop the views are breathtaking. Most of hte other zones are far more open-ended.

Don't think I'll continue playing this anymore, aside from the performance issues the game just severely lacks polish, the combat system isn't that great really, and on the whole the game just seems boring to me.

I completely agree.

One of my main dislikes of the game in addition to the lack of polish (and the fact its just dam boring) is the instanced zones. There is no need for them and it utterly ruins the feeling of immersion. If they are going to instance zones like Guild Wars, they should at least adopt Guild Wars' no subsciption fee policy which was their justification for the zone instancing.

Instance dungeons, ala WoW, are one thing - Having 12 instanced of each zone on the same server is entirely different. For a supposed 'next gen' mmorpg, its sure as hell taken a few steps backwards.

I grew to hate instances thanks to Tabula Rasa, AOC having them really isn't tempting me to buy it at all, really puts me off it if I'm honest. Instancing is getting so common now, but it's only ever good from a support point of view, very little benefit to players but a lot of disadvantages.

I have not played AoC yet and i dont take on board peoples whining much, and anyone who has got to the highest lvl already needs no put their obviously abundant time into something more constructive - im sure if they put as much effort into something in RL they would be top of their field...

but i have to admit that even though most mmo's are plagued with the sort of people who are pseudo critics, LotRO had an emactually smooth start compaired to other mmo's. Why cant other companys do the same.

Ive been back to EQ2 recentally and cant understand why there are not millions playing it, maybe because the easy/mundane mmo's like WoW are sapping people will to play mmo's.

Firstly; Calm down before you make a complete idiot out of yourself. Secondly; Try reading the replies to my question, and my responses, before you go flying off the handle at me.

My question was perfectly valid. I have never played an MMO before that requires you to talk to an NPC if you want to go to a different location in the world, all the ones I have played before have been completely free-roaming and simply allowed you to run or travel on vehicle/mount between major areas.

Relax, I don't need calming down, I was just using capitals for emphasis. And I wasn't berating you either, I was just astounded that you spent so long in that little backwater village - it's a big ****ing world out there man! :)

Sorry if I took it the wrong way, it just looked like I'd offended you somehow. :p

To be fair I was only stuck there about ten minutes until I came here to find out how to leave the village. Since finding out about the wagoneer NPCs I've done a bit of exploring and questing in Old Tarantia, the Wildlands and Poitain. Watching my back like hell in those areas as I am on an RP-PVP server. :D

Aww man, you should've stayed in Cimmeria a bit longer, Conall's valley is stunning visually. It's not the best to adventure in compared to, say, Khopsef in Stygia, cause of all the narrow windy mountainside paths, but the views are worth it. Which server are you on, Corinthia or Aquilonia?

I'm on Aquilonia, just picked the first RP-PVP server sorted by alphabet. :D

I have gone back to Conarch Village now to get the quests there out of the way.
