Been watching Trigun and it aint half bad, reminds me of irresponsible cpt Tylor in some ways. I also like the western theme and music which reminds me a bit of firefly.

I'm sure Wheedon was reminded of Trigun when he was writing Firefly tbh :p There's a lot of things about Firefly that reminded me of anime, in terms of setup, characters, and plotlines, always thought of it as "Cowboy Bebop with more cowboys" :D

You could be very much right there ;)
Firefly also has a few overtones of Outlaw Star at times.

I'm probably a year or so late to say this, but Paprika is absolutely brilliant, I can't believe it took me so long to get the DVD, and then so long to watch it, it's sort of a mix between Memories and Perfect Blue with a touch of Pom Poko in feel, and one of the best non Ghibli anime's i've seen I think.

I agree, I was quite surprised with Paprika. I had it for quite a while before watching it because I wasn't that sure of how good it was going to be but once I did i was pleasantly surprised. Well worth a watch IMHO

I posted about how good Paprika and Vexille back in November but nobody paid much attention then - if I say "I told you so!" do I get banned? :p

Seriously guys, track down Tekkonkinkreet, which was the third anime movie I saw at the festival - and it was even better than either of these other two!

Not to mention Aachi and Ssipak, which is Korean rather than Japanese but very much in anime style, and which is seriously the most twisted, absurd, hillarious and irreverent anime you will ever see - IT'S GOT MUTANT TERRORIST CRACKHEAD SMURFS FFS!!! :D

Ahh ... but Vexille wasn't actually out then on DVD was it ;)

I do have Tekkonkinkreet in my to watch pile (I think) but it's going to have to wait until after I've finished Samurai Champaloo at the weekend at least ...

Ok, bit of different question ... anyone know anywhere online which has a decent selection of anime wall scrolls available ... and by decent selection I don't include Naruto, Bleach or Deathnote.

I got a nice Sister Princess one off the 'bay (*) which arrived this morning. Looking around all the places I normally look at seem to have roughly the same selection. Anime Online and Tokyo Toys have a few but whilst TRSI seems to have a lot they mostly seem to be on order with manufacturers.

Any thoughts ...

(*) chances of it being a knock off are pretty high but it looks good.

Nope, I did mention I saw it at a film festival :) With Vexille I know that the print was flown off back to Japan 2 days after I saw it, but the others were still knocking around the country so they might've been shown somewhere near you... the London Film Festival was around the same time wasn't it?

Anyway, let me re-iterate how important it is for EVERYONE to see Aachi and Ssipak! It really is OBSCENELY funny!:D

My comment wasn't specifically aimed at you. It was just me saying "A rack like that on a 14 year-old? Yeah right..."

:) that'll be the usual anime problem ... they can draw small cute characters or characters which look like hot 18 year olds but the in-betweens are a bit of a problem for them.

Take this for instance ....

charactersoe2.jpg

... apparently all of these characters are the same age (17 I think, it's a while since I saw the image). This has improved somewhat on some of the more up to date series but it still can be a weak area.

(off topic ... hmmm ... I recognise series or characters for 6 of them (1,2,5,6,8,9) and two of the others (4,7) look vaguely familiar ;) )

I don't ban people for that...I may give them interesting new usernames though...

I think it was that comment that helped pursuade me to buy the dvd when i saw it cheap ;) (I had a huge backlog of DVD's for about 6 months starting around October*),

I''ll look into Vexhile and Aachi & Ssipak ;)

I've just finished the first 3 episode of Negima and so far i'm really enjoying it, silly but very funny (poor Negi seems to be allergic to Asahina's hair?).

If anyone is interested it looks like ADV in the states are going to be re-releasing some of their thin pack collections at stupidly low prices - iirc it includes Angelic Layer (great CLAMP fun), Run Soldier and a few others at an RRP of about $40, so about $23 + shipping from DVD Pacific (call it £15) for the whole series.
I'll be picking Run Soldier up at a guess.

I could barely name 3 of them...I fear i'm out of touch these days with a lot of the new anime, i've barely had time to watch my dvd's recently.

*At one point the Anime part of it was about 100 hours, and was increasing faster than I could get it down, and that's not including about 120 hours of American TV at the time.
I've currently got Negima, Samurai gun, Witchblade 1-3, Tsubasa 1-4 and a few other anime disks to watch, and My name is Earl, The Lone Gunmen to watch.

I don't have a definitive list, although I suspect I may be able to find one ....
that I know of

1 from Hidamari Sketch
2 Louise from Zero no Tsukaima
3
4
5 Sachiko from Maria-Sama Ga Miteru
6 from Minabi Straight
7
8 Konata from Lucky Star
9 from Denno Coil

Not sure about the others. You could be rght about 7 but I have my doubts, I don't know 3 and I just can't remember where i've seen 4 before.

Werewolf, I found Negima was a bit slow at first and then improved so if you are enjoying it now you should like the rest. My Anime DVD to watch pile is probably north of 200 hours at the moment but is going down faster than it's being added too ... my general to watch pile is around the same but that's pretty much stuck at the moment :(

1,4 and 9 i am stuck on,they look sooo familiar
Gonna have a bit of fun and see if i can identify today i think:D

I'm confident on my answers for those two, (*cough cough* ;)). I'll give you Sky Girls for 2 as well as it ties in with the picture on the Wikipedia page for that series.

4 is really bugging me ... I know I've seen that character somewhere but I cannot remember where.

I think I first saw the image on dannychoo.com so if it can be located on there then people may have identified the characters in the comments, (note that the site is classed as NSFW (even though most of it is ok most business filters block it ... ours does or i'd have a look myself)).

I think that this image first put me onto Maria-sama as I thought the Sachiko character shown was drawn differently enough with an obvious lack of fan service to usual that i wondered what the series was like.

edit: working from memory as the new webfilter at work appears to be blocking imageshack  ... for 6 it's actually Manabi Straight and the character is Manabi and for 1 the character is Yuno for the series given, (note the X hair clips?). Wikipedia's no help in getting the cahracter name for 9 though.
