This Is Why No PC Star Wars Force Unleashed

LOL WUT? Nintendo Wii anybody?

Let's face it, there is one true answer and it is greed. PC gaming only makes up something like 13-14% of game sales and I am not even sure if that includes hand-held platforms, so it's not a case of "our gaming experience" being at stake it's simply a case of us not being important enough to their wallets.

Thank god that there are developers out there who still put games out for the PC, unlike Lucasarts and Epic Games who are only where they are thanks to PC gamers in the first place. Good riddance.

Agreed at least get his facts right it been shown many times you can build a pc for around 300 now that will match any console

Other companies have managed to develop game engines which are highly scalable to accommodate a wide range of different hardware configurations. Valve, Epic, id, Ironclad Games etc.

Lucasarts... you are just being lazy. Thanks a lot. I'll remember all the great games you released on the PC and made much of your fortune with. Heck, I still play some of them today. Big disappointment.

So what platform is the game engine developed on? What system do they create the 3D objects and 2D textures with? I didn't know that you can develop a game using Maya or 3d Max on a PS3/XBox/Wii....

It's utter rubbish, why don't they admit that console sales outperform PC sales and that is why there is no PC version.

What happened to the Jedi Knight mod for Doom3? I bet that would beat the pants off Force Unleashed if it was ever completed!

urgh another run of the mill SW game that looks utter tripe. Not bothered about this wont even get it on PS3. Need another KOTOR or something.

The simple reason why the game isn't being ported to the PC is because of the Euphoria engine. It requires a minimum of 3 cores to work properly, so only those with a quad-core set-up can play the game.

It's the same reason why GTA 4 is very unlikely to be coming to the PC.

The chances of gta4 not coming to pc are about the same as FORD not making a new fiesta\mondeo\focus.

I would also call bs on the theory of needing 3 cores minimum to run properly.

Bah, shiny graphics aren't everything, gameplay is what counts. Why bother developing it for the Wii if that's the case because surely the people on the Wii won't be getting the same experience as on the PS3 or even the xBox, they would in fact be getting a watered down experience.

Yeah, except the Euphoria engine and physical interaction with the environment is a massive part of gameplay with Force Unleashed - and this needs a beefy CPU more than anything else.

How on Earth can that attitude be defined as greed?

If they were being greedy they'd farm out some sub-standard port and be done with it.

I don't really care either way about this specific game, just thought it was ridiculous that someone should accuse them of greed when their decision is the antithesis of the word.

...which of course the Wii has, amirite? Most likely reason they're not considering it for the PC is piracy I imagine, behind closed doors anyway.

Because there's no point developing for a platform with only 14% market share when you are already developing it for seven console platforms (including hand-held platforms).

Why spend the development money when you've already covered the biggest cash cows?

It's exactly as I said: When it comes to their wallets, we're not important enough.

Yeah because piracy is actually a threat to PC gaming. Even Crytek have reversed their position on this and have said the reason they're not focusing on PC exclusives anymore has nothing to do with piracy.

Not to mention that they could simply sell The Force Unleashed on Steam or D2D.

Nice stat there, 13-14%? PC games software sales are more than all console software sales combined, according to ELSPA, who are independent enough that I believe them, ELSPA members are just as prominently console as PC based.

You'll notice that was going off the typical monthly NPD Group sales figures that have only recently, in the last month or so, been revised to include digital download sales and online subscriptions (neither of which apply to a game like The Force Unleashed unless it appears on Steam or similar).

Feel free to link me to some recently ELSPA market share and/or sales figures and I'll use those. All I've done is go purely off what information we had available and, at that time, it was the monthly NPD Group report that cited 14% market share for PC game retail sales in north America.

It's also worth mentioning that the NPD Group is ranked in the top 25 market research companies according to an independent report that can be found here. So your point about believability is pretty much moot.

Did you only come in this thread to snipe? :)

I don't miss it, force unleashed is a rubbish and boring game imo...

Just another hack and slash ish game but then with terrible ai, star wars themed, and boring :(. Just seems boring to me personally when I played it on my mates ps3, my mates also don't seem to get why I dislike it but it's one of the poorest modern games I've ever seen tbh.
Just a bit of messing with the force and lightsabers ( yawn).
