Is my xbox supposed to be THIS noisy?

According to that picture my old xbox has a samsung drive, My New one with the Benq is considerably faster. I have no problems Loading GTA it loads quicker than my ps3 version.

I feel your pain. What type of drive do you have in your 360? I used to have a Samsung and it was really loud much like your description. Just had my 360 replaced with a BENQ drive and while it is not whisper quite ala PS3 but it is far far better.

I have a Benq one and it did vibrate a lot, the drive itself is quiet now I've stopped it shaking, the fans are the things now making all the noise.
 
I have the Hitachi one, its quite noisy but then I have my speakers above 1 so I don't really hear it when gaming/music/movies. Had the occasional can't read disc but no other problems.

If you want to go that route you would probably be better off looking at the stuff you can do to reduce the speed of your drive. And as you can guess those details can't be posted here.
 
My second 360 is louder than my first one, my third PS3 is louder (when it gets going) than either of my previous 2 PS3's or Xbox360's. Wish there were an ounce of continuity :(.
 
Mine is pretty recent. similar time to begbies and its bloody loud.

ok if im listening to something at a decent level but there is no denying that on quiet parts of the game or film.. the noise is very noticable
 
My 360 is less than a month old and the fans are pretty quiet, louder than my pc but not by much.

However, when the drive kicks in....:(
 
For me, the noise that the X360 makes is unbearable while playing at night. My little sister's room is next to mine so when she is sleeping I cannot turn the volume on the TV up to drown out the sound of the console like I would do during the day. The near silence of my PS3 is sheer bliss compared.
