I spoke to someone in CPW and he'd "got an e-mail about iPhones this morning, but wasn't sure what was happening". His guess for a PAYG was £400 though.

Did you ask them about PAYG Justin?

o2 admintted there was a PAYG offer on the cards but he said "you'll find out before we know if you keep an eye on the web"

Yeah, PAYG is available and you have to use the SIM that's in the iPhone when you get it but that stuffs all on the site though. No word on pricing yet, but they said "expect to find out within a week or so".

I really want one of these 3G iPhones but im shocked with reading this article:

The bad news
There are, though, still some omissions that could be significant, depending on what you use your phone for. The iPhone 3G certainly won’t be competing with Sony Ericsson’s Cyber-shot camphones – its camera remains a 2MP affair, with no flash or autofocus. There’s also still no MMS texting, A2DP Bluetooth, flash support, video recording or built-in iChat.

So basically I wont be able to send pics or receive them via mms? WTF?

No Bluetooth either?

Camera is pants as well I have to say.

Im not sure if I want this phone or or not now

Not without additional software on a jailbroken phone.

No Bluetooth either?

Only for headsets and such.

Carry a camera instead if you want them to be that good.

Im not sure if I want this phone or or not now

Don't look at what it can't do, think of all the things it can do!

You can use MMS, but it needs jailbreaking. So standard out of the box affair has no MMS.

Bluetooth....I lived without it fine the past 2 months

Camera...i carry a camera in my bag, the one in it does fine all other times.

I agree that it would be nice to have all of the above and they really should have considering it is a flagship product of sort, and more reason as it is a v2 product so its not like they never had user feedback on it.

Nope. You can by email. I confess I've never really taken photos so the lack of MMS and crap camera don't bother me in the slightest. Besides, any MMS I've received has been woeful quality anyway.

Bluetooth for headsets, other than that - no. Or you'd be sending your mp3s to people - not good, apparently!

Handbag is it? :p

The iPhone is limited, it doesn't have the array of features that the other phones do but I just prefer the interface.

I don't use MMS, Bluetooth or the Camera so in that sense I don't mind but I can understand why some people would feel limited.

I think the 3G phone could have at least had a better camera.

MMS may be enabled through an official app or if not SwirlyMMS will still be going probably.

You're all slow... and I did nicer quoting! ;)

Oh check you out! ;) :D

What is this 'jailbreaking' your talking about to get MMS messages?

You jailbreak the phone so that files can be written to it. Then you can use Installer to install SwirlyMMS, which allows you to send and recieve MMS messages.
Word of warning though - in it's current incarnation, its incredibly user unfriendly. It 'works'... just not nice to use!

Is this easy 'jailbreaking' to do?

You can use Ziphone from here to jailbreak it. HERE.

Then you just use Jailbreak, which should afaik install Installer for you so you are ready to rock.

I assume you are on a proper iPhone tariff?

Of course, even their own website admits that, but if you need MMS, then its the only option.

Oh and it is pictures only.

? How

As far as I can see it, apple have entirely solved the problems they were having:

1. If you want a cheap iPhone (ranging from free on a £75/m contract to around £100 on cheaper ones for an 8Gb), you can have one. But you HAVE to sign the contract in store/online before getting it. You have to do that with any phone - e.g. N95 for free, when its RRP is £400+.

2. As apple can't stop people unlocking them (the v2 betas are already jailbroken), and don't want to lose out on possible money making, they'll sell it on Pay as you Go. It won't be cheap, but you will be able to walk out of the store without signing up to anything.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear... I think it's good - I've got an official O2 contract and have done since launch. Might finally stop the eBay profiteering and stuff too.

I think I'll just stick with my current V1. Will just unlock it; won't have a need to jailbreak it anymore though.

I'm going to wait and see what the PAYG price is, if it's that much of a **** take I'll hop on the bay and buy a brand new v1 and jailbreak it...
