petrol prices

Trouble is, once we get into that people can respond "Don't complain how much your luxuries cost then". Which is competely unreasonable in this circumstance, but also perfectly logical, and very hard to argue against. It's one of those lines in the sand I reckon...

Personally, I did 500 miles last weekend on the bike, cost me about £50 in fuel at a guess, still strikes me as very good value tbh- cheaper than crack and just as addictive :D I could detune it back to standard and get about 20% better fuel economy but where's the fun in that?

People could respond that way, then I'd ask them how much petrol costs for their little 1 litre Yaris or whatever ;)

Would save me about a fiver a week driving a 40MPG car :)

with the price of oil going up quite a lot lately and petrol heading toward's a stupid amout, why do people have such big cars ?
i see a lot of people on here with st220,big bmw's and so forth....i know the big car's give you the added comfort and ride quality of a smaller car but is it really worth it if your spending £100 a month for instance on petrol and diesel ?
just wanted to listen to people's view's on why they have such big engine car's when the price of fuel is out of control.
btw...i drive a 1.4 renault megane and it does me fine....on a 51 plate as well.

You don't tend to get large cars with small engines. Being of the taller build I can't get into a lot of small cars - e.g. Pug 206, dangerously close pedals for size 13 feet. Or not enough head room meaning I can't get a clear view out the windscreen.

One of the vans at work is a Vauxhall Combi (based on a Corsa). Can't lift my leg from the accelerator to the brake due to my knees being wedged under the wheel. At least it gets me out of driving duties!

So I drive a 1.8 182g/km Planet Killing Mondeo.

But I'm lucky if I do 6K miles a year.

I recently read this on another forum:

Oil is indeed very cheap, imagine that you had to make a journey of 30 miles, in an area without public transport, and with a backpack or other luggage, and in unpleasant weather.

How much would a litre of petrol be worth for your moped? I suggest at least £25, and probably more.

If you had the choice of a days hard work with an axe, or ten minutes with a chainsaw, how much would a litre of petrol be worth? probably at least £25.

Oil stunningly cheap for the work it can do.

That's only 37mpg (£1.20 a litre) - you should be able to over 300 miles if you drive a bit more carefully.

the torque is only 59lbs, and with long gear ratios I have to nail the crap out of it get to speed on the mway/dual carriageway. That and short journeys.

EDIT: £1.20 a litre! I didnt pay that much, was 117p ithink, not that thats really going to change much.

Went to a total garage to put in £5 and the guy behind the counter said he wished everyone would only put £5, I was the only person yesterday to not panic buy.

If everyone put enough in to last them till midweek there would be no problem.

I filled mine yesterday as it was totally empty and £5 would get me no where. Cost me £72 to fill it, DTE is reading 580 miles as I have been driving carefully, the last tank lasted me 380 miles and 2 weeks, not bad for such a big car.

So what? Why do people say this as if it's some sort of amazing feat? There is no benefit to this at all, you still pay the same per litre you just... hold less fuel, duh, so you need to buy it more often.

I was talking about mpg to be nmore specific, the smart car does well in that area.

My dad buys the mail and its got "panic buy" on the front page or something - now my dad is trying to convince me to go out and get some more petrol. I hope people don't "panic buy" when i go out tonight - i'm in the red!
