petrol prices

Just filled up this morning for 112.9.
I'm sure when I started driving fuel was about 80p/l. In just 3 years its going to have risen nearly 50%.

"Oil prices jumped on Friday after the European Central Bank signalled eurozone interest rates would rise in July, and weak US employment data led to downward pressure on the dollar.

Nymex July West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 5.1 per cent, or $6.50 to $134.29, having earlier hit $134.68. ICE July Brent gained $5.89 to $133.43 a barrel."

Specualtion does have its place, I see.

Why do people look at TAX as a sour point rather than the reliance on petrol?

How do you expect the economy to work? You know like having your bread delivered to supermarkets and for people to get to work? No efficient mass transit system for people, no decent rail system for freight and the last time I looked both buses and trains also needed diesel!

Tax on duty is stupid.

You seriously think our economy can't be more efficient that it is now? Our economy will benefit tremendously if we reduce our reliance on fuel. It's that reliance that is the Achilles' heal of our economy.

weescott is exactly right to say our reliance is the problem rather than the tax.

You show me a country in the world that is able to run a successful economy and infrastructure without using oil. It is a pipe dream with todays technology which there are no viable alternatives.

The tax has nothing to do with reducing reliance on fossil fuels and all about fleecing Joe public to pay for poorly run public services.

I agree, I cant wait until the government spends the couple of hundred million required to set up semi decent public transport in my rural area. Then I can rely less on oil and drain the coffers of somebody else instead of my own.

Just filled up @ 116.9p/l. Cost £51 for 44 litres  but hey.. I returned 33MPG average which considering I've been driving it harder makes no sense.. Lol. I guess my engine needs to be revved more to achieve peak efficiency

Every time I drive my girlfriend to work in the mornings I notice the price increasing all the time.

130.9 for Diesel where I live if I recall today.:(

If I didn't inherit my dad's motor when he passed away, there's no way I'd purchase a diesel car in the current economic climate.

I can't belive this island i live on ...

They want to add 5p a litre green tax to all fuel (including house heating oil ) plus a emissions tax on gas-guzzlers
