There is one born every minute

I know that these expensive cables do nothing special in every day use, but has anyone tested them in extreme situations? They are made of different materails, like some are made of silver/gold, so perhaps they function better then cheap cables in extreme cold/heat, or when there are insane levels of noise on the frequency that the data travels along the cables at.

Even if they do perform better in extreme conditions, could you justify there price tags?

I really dont think so.

For that sort of price i would expect the cable to be surrounded by an inch of lead shielding to block any interference caused by a nearby nuclear explosion.

For that price I would expect Kylie Minogue to give me a blow job.

Hmmmm...

How much does a true gigabit cable cost these days btw ?
1 metre or anything.

Only someone stupid would buy a cat 5 cable for that much though.

i bought a 25 meter cat5e cable (so, STP) for £6 a few months ago.

A cat5e cable is okay for 1000mbit/sec  ?
Bah should have known this ages ago that way I'd set up a gigabit connection with my dad's pc directly with my and his 2nd gigabit lan card instead of going through the slow 100 mbit switches, dumping data on his pc is too slow atm :(.
I reckon gigabit would speed it up by 3 times I think, copying large files I mean.

yeah, cat5e is good for gigabit and CAT6 is good for 10Gigabit

<edit> and by 2013 CAT7 will take 100Gigabit at 100 meters!

For that sort of price I'd be expecting it to be constantly held off the ground by stunning blondes :D

Presenting the $499 Denon link cable

Looks like a 1.5m cat 5 patch cable, because thats what it is.

People always pay over the top for things just look at cars for instance, or car tuning even. Look at the motors section you'll find hundreds born every minute paying over the odds for parts that don't change the fact that their cars are to get them from A to B.

gadget show did a reveiw on HDMI cables and although its not scientifically proven to the naked eye there was no visible difference at all.

even if they perform better in extreme hot and cold - how would you know? am i the only one that likes watching tv in a tolerable climate.

I have a couple of boxes of cat5 im going to get some fancy weave jacket and shiney covers for the plugs and make a mint from the people that buy this stuff, lmao.

InvG, your link from your sig is saying your account is suspended :p

Yeah, my host is a complete...well forums won't allow it...it's nothing to do with me. A friend runs the hosting and claims that the server has gone down and he's fixing it...that was about 3 weeks ago it went down...I think he hasn't paid his bills. ;)
It's a pain though as I can't change my hosting to else where due to costs and also loss of data, I have loads of emails (I think) on the server, and NEED to get to them, but can't.

Mr Sukabe on these forums has one of those IIRC.....

You can't compare the two. a lot of tuning parts DO make a BIG difference to the performance of a car. Of course it doesn't change the fact that the car gets from A to B, but it makes a huge difference in how it gets there. Besides, it's not just about getting 'from A to B', a lot of people enjoy taking their cars on trackdays and the like. Spending money on parts that genuinely improve a cars performance is money well spent to a lot of people.

To compare that to cables which don't actually do anything atall is just silly.
