Metal Gear Solid 4 Review Database

Halo had a story, just not a very good one. You don't buy halo for the story, you buy it for the action and online. You buy MGS for the story and you get gameplay thrown in there. I wasn't comparing them as games, I was comparing them as system sellers. Halo sells xbox's, mgs sells playstation's.

One game on a console that was a new console with a small fanbase does NOT prove this.

Evidence please?

MGS has a small fan base even on the playstation. MGS 3 didn't even sell 2 million copies on the ps2, It was a huge flop. To me, MGS3 is the best MGS game(story wise that is).

Look at the amount of xbox 360's sold and the amount of copies of halo 3 sold. Most 360 owners, own halo 3.

They don't need evidence, they have rose-tinted speculation specticals. ;) :D

At the end of the day, NO ONE really knows if one exclusive game for one console will sell as well or better were it on a competing console.

However, saying 360 owners consist of just FPS fans is completly dumbfounded! I'm a fan of many different genre's of game which is one of the reasons I decided to buy a 360 as it had a large back catalogue of games.

For the record, if MGS4 was to be released on 360, I'd buy it.

Also, Gametrailers gave a reason for a lower than usual story rating; it lingered too much in their opinion.

here is an article that states that 17.7 million 360's had been sold as of Jan 08, and 8.1 million of copies of Halo 3 had been sold. This proves that a lot of 360 owners own Halo 3. It does NOT prove that a lot of people bought a 360 for Halo 3, I certainly didn't yet I own Halo 3. What I asked you to prove was that most people bought a 360 for Halo 3, try again.

I'm splitting hairs here, but if you're talking about each consoles premier titles, I'd have to say Final Fantasy is the playstation's one. The Metal Gear series is critically acclaimed, but it doesn't quite receive the attention that a Final Fantasy release gets.

The review scores are amazing though, and if the MGS series were to continue, I'd imagine things may become different. But for now, FF is the Playstations big hitter.

This kind of attitude is very akin to racism/discrimination in general.

I think you are wrong on this mate, I am able to accept the way different things are. In my office even the most difficult persons enjoys my friendship.

Just because I believe and commented that majority of xbox-only-owners are FPS fans makes me a potential racists? I'm saying majority, not all are FPS die hard. I'm saying it based on the sales achievement of Halo games. Isn't it obvious that xbox controller was design for shooter games? Their weak D pad in comparision to the analog stick?

Its rubbish.
I played it for a few hours round a mates.
Controls are fine imo, but the amount of daft things in it, product placements, dodgy inventory and the fact that more time is spent in cutscenes than in game is a joke.
Not impressed.
Each to their own, but im awaiting Sams next outing...

There is just so much wrong with that statement.

In my collection I have:

4 FPS
2 Hack and Slash
2 RPG
6 Driving
2 Adventure
5 Sport
3 Sandbox

And do you know what? I play all of them with one/two analogue sticks and none of them with the d-pad (at least not for primary control)

Racists

:)

Sorry, I didn't mean to be so dramatic with that statement, but the argument still stands that you shouldn't really generalise 360 owners as all being partial to FPSs. I mean, people don't really know/realise that the thumbsticks are better for FPSs (though I disagree with this) and that the d-pad is crappy before they buy a 360. And it just so happens that FPSs, which in the past were usually best on PCs, have dominated this gen.

I said majority, not all and i suppose don't include you then. My conclusion based on the huge sales of Halo 1 2 and 3 on the 360.

Your saying the pad was obviously designed for FPS...because of the halo 1,2 and 3 sales? (bearing in mind that none of the games were out when the pad was designed)

Your posts just get funnier and funnier :D

Explain why I can't say it. I couldn't understand what's wrong with being a fan of FPS games. What's wrong with that? Not like those people won't play racing games or RPG?

Why are you guys so against me saying majority of 360 gamers are FPS fans? I'm a MGS type of fan but occasionally I still like GOW and Burnout? Yes my statement could be wrong but I'm covinced I'm right because of Halo 1 2 and 3 consistent sales record.

The thumbstick thing is probably me but I remember a thread in the past ppl arguing about 360 pad being better as the analog stick is better positioned while the D pad is rather awful. Also something about sixaxis very bad and old design. For me I find the D pad of 360 is still quite poor compare to its analog stick. None the less I believe the 360 analog stick was amazing for FPS games.

Your argument was 360 fans just like fps hence why MGS4 wouldn't sell on the console.

everyone and his dog knows the 360 is aimed for the american macho gun-ho market with its fps type games, yes its got better this gen but still doesn't have the wider appeal to the wider audience hence a lot regard the 360 as no1 for fps games which isn't a bad thing, means i can keep more interesting games like Little Big Planet for my PS3
