how to make an old crt tv appear 'on the way out'...?

Why not come up with a aggrement, £100 for her to spend on clothes and a new TV for the both of you.

I know the TV is for both of you, but she will never see it that way. Win win.

I often buy things I want without consulting my missus, and my missus buys things that she wants without consulting me and that's no problem.

Obviously you have to be responsible if the purchase is an expensive item, but you said in your OP that money wasn't a problem.

Just go for it mate.

Thats exactly what the miss's & I do, more-so me :), but anything expensive we have a discussion, she say's "NO" I sulk for a week or two, dig and moan until she backs down, I WIN! she then moans for a bit, which women are quite happy doing, & i'm happy as I got a new toy woooo.

I disagree, almost every buy for my pc has made me very happy :).

His wife has a point, my parents are the same, they don't want to buy a new tv for downstairs because the 26'' rt we have is still working.
But if you really want a new one and believe it will make you happy, then buy it no question about it.

Buying my MacBook made me happy, but it is only a short term happiness and is not to be compared to a more spiritual happiness. People often make the mistake of thinking that they can simply make their life better by having the latest or best things. OK, I am sounding a little bit New Age so I'll shut up but I do believe what I say...

Oh and I agree with his wife. Me and my wife are the same, we only replace stuff when it needs replacing or if it is something new we need or doesn't have a big financial cost.

We got our first HD TV when the cable box took a lightning strike and direct line replaced the Sony Wega CRT with a Bravia HDTV. I am sure that if it had not have gone bang (and I mean BANG!) I would still be watching TV on it now.

I want a Mac Mini to replace my media PC but won't do it until the PC becomes to old.

My only real weakness is my cycles as that is my hobby and my wife's and our strict financial discipline does tend to break down a little bit here! :(:o:D

I would trash the speaker(s) the picture would make it too obvious.

Or tell her you're happy to hold onto it as it was bought for you by an ex with whom you spent many a happy hour watching porn.
