Vectra VXR

Problem is fox, as your quote at the top reveals, car buying is a very strict and analytical process for you. You find the best car in its class, then proceed to buy the oldest example you can find with as many miles as possible, so long as its been well looked after.

I'd rather you stopped guessing what I do becuase you just get it wrong and it's not relevant to the thread. if I'd have bought the oldest example I could have found then I'd now be driving a nice V, W or X reg example and missing out on the ridiculous new tax. I tend to only buy cars under 5 years old.

What I wont do, however, is spend up to double the money on something pretty much the same just becuase its low mileage. Which seems stupid if you are in the position where you are now trying to 'find the extra £3k'. If you don't have it dont try and find ways to get it, just save yourself some cash!

Why did you post this thread anyway? It's not as if you didnt know exactly the way it'd go.

but buying a car 2 years old is such a henious crime it warrants you going on and on about it for weeks ?

You seriously must have forgotten how many times you've said that spending more than 6k on a 2003 mondeo is wasting money.

Like i said earlier in my post, its down to your character. Its like when people post that they want a vauxhall corsa. You just cant comprehend why somebody would want to buy a car thats not best in class, in exactly the same way you cant comprehend why somebody doesnt want to buy a 5 year old car like you did.

Becuase every week you post about what car you are going to buy - my opinion isn't going to change, is it? I'd be pretty indecisive if it did :p

You are right, I can't comprehend why somebody would want a Vauxhall Corsa but the reason I can't has nothing to do with what I usually buy - infact VERY FEW people on this forum have my buying habits and as a result very few of the things I post in threads like this are based on my buying habits.

After all, if I was trying to get you to do what I'd do I'd be pimping used 3 Series or something. Which, after you mentioned you were not a BMW person, I've not mentioned...

You don't really seem all that decisive about what car to buy, tbh if thats the case it's a bit daft to spend such a huge amount of cash on a Ford/Vauxhall etc especially when you can, as I point out all the time yada yada yada get Fords and Vauxhalls for considerably less money that are pretty much as good.

but buying a car 2 years old is such a henious crime

Of course it isn't - but buying it BECUASE its 2 years old, however, might well be less than sensible even if it isnt a 'henious crime'. If you wanted something pretty damn good that wasn't really available anywher else and that meant a nice 2 year old example then brill, go for it. But a Vauxhall Vectra?

thats alright then. I only want an 04 plate ST220 because of the revised gearbox etc.. If the ST220 hadnt changed at all in the 6 (or 5?) years it was being built, i would probably feel a bit uneasy about the mileage, but enjoy the savings that a higher mileage car offers, and get a 2003 model.

I'd also quite happily buy a 2003 vectra VXR ... but such things dont exist. The previous vectra GSI was a very different animal and nothing like the VXR. I could buy something mundane, and wait a year or two for the prices to come down, but ive been driving mundane cars since i passed my test 9 years ago this september and want to treat myself :p

All anyone is trying to do really is help you buy something pretty cool as your next car and get a good deal. I'm not trying to be a **** I'm trying to show you there is no need to spend such a huge amount of money to get what you want from a car.

I mean seriously whats worth spending £10-13k on a '220 or a VXR that any of these I've just found for you wont give you:

2002 02 Reg FORD Mondeo 3.0 V6 ST220

Lots of change for the 11 new Flywheels you seem to think that'll need.

With so many of these around at prices as amazing as this why pay more? Why not buy one of those and take your missus on a £5000 holiday?

well the sri version in black or silver does look pretty nice and there is more attention to detail in the cabin but i've decided to keep my mk3 as it's not really costing me out to run it,

Doesnt the SRi have the VVT engine that's terrible at low speed? I had one as a hire car and on the motorway it's great, but in traffic it lurches forward.

I've no idea if these VXR's are any good as I have not been in one, let alone driven one. Looks awesome in red I have to say.

good god, that last 220 is tempting, best colour too, you can't say that's not a head turner, even as popular as they are, they are still a really nice car, i know what i'd choose :)

you see, i read fox's post and go all sensible and think that spending 7k on 3.0 V6 titanium x (with St220 bodykit and chrome) is the way forward

then you go and post stuff like this. ARGH! head or heart head or heart ....

haha i saw the exact same one. Its got every option ticked. Xenons, parking sensors, heated rear seats, satnav.

Only thing thats missing is some nice wheels. Surely i can pick up some ST220 / 18" Titanium X alloys for £400 on the bay though ?

alternatively, correct colour, ST220 and with xenons too

but i'd be joining the "Ford Bumming Crowd" and get just as much negative comments as i did posting about the VXR....
