** The Official ATI RV770/RV700 Series Review/Overclocking Thread **

They seem like very good results. I don't know if it would make much difference, but the old results I obtained were on the pre-patched version of crysis. My HD4850 results are on version 1.2?

On my own setup, I'm definately seeing gains. This was after my initial 3dmark06 results disappointment where I was wondering what all the fuss was about!

I can't remember what drivers I was using with those 8800GT results either.

I am running the 169.21s. Crysis is unpatched, as I have had no problems...Yet. As you can see I added a higher res test to my earlier post as well. Strange to see a big difference considering your quad. At 1650 x 1080, its more than playable for me on high. I think I turn down postprocessing ingame though for that little extra boost.

I don't think the quad makes a big difference in frame rates with the Crysis GPU test?

Anyway, whatever the reason, something was probably up with my setup comparing your results with mine.

Did these figures not look low to anyone?

I have just ran the bench on 3 loops, 1680x1050, no AA, all settings on high, and i get the following:

Min fps - 12.4
Max fps - 37.65
Avg fps - 32.145

Then again at 1900x1200, no AA, all settings on High:

Min fps - 12.78
Max fps - 29.90
Avg fps - 26.07

XP DX9 with spec as sig. Surely Tooks rig should have beat mine comfortably, especially with a quad at 3GHz

Just trying to decide whether the new ATI card is worth the upgrade from the GT.

Found my old GT results...

No doubt about it the 4850 smashes the GT.

they are worse! It seems to be permanently stuck at 14%!! If there is not a bios fix or something soon I may return it under the distance selling act and get a 4870.

boo. i tried editing the bios for my 3850 but didn't have much luck. although the bios flashed ok, the fan still didn't kick in like i expected it to.

i have no problems in games whatsoever so at least it's not a major issue. but i can't help but think it would be better if the fan did speed up to cool it down - i've seen it at 90c at times.... :p

i seriously considering a 4870 for myself too. if the fan profiles are borked on those aswell, i guess i'll have to run rivatuner or something.

Apparently there are issues with the fans ramping up at higher temperatures with the stock cooler?

Here's an interesting quote that I've shamelessly stolen:

The card performs flawlessly, however out of the box the GPU was registering 79c at idle in catalyst overdrive window, after changing thermal paste and re-installing temps are more like 55 - 60c idle and load temperatures are also much improved. With the heat taken care of I tried Catalyst’s built in overclocking utility which allows up to 700 core and 1200 memory clocks, I tried 700/ 1100 and found it to be stable for bench testing and the hour of crisis I played.

I take it it is the Accelero S1 v2 that fits? Think I might be ordering one on Monday. Is it quieter than stock?

Do you have a crossfire motherboard?

Just a rumour but you may be able to mix 38xx and 48xx

You've always been able to mix cards in Crossfire, but they have a nasty habit of running as fast as one and a half times the speed of the slowest card you have installed.

It's the original Accelero S1 that I've got on mine, the holes for mounting are 75mm across the diagonal. It was sitting in the cupboard from when I had an X1950 card, and I used some old motherboard mosfet heatsinks for the mosfets on the GPU. I've also got a rev2 version on another card, and I think that just fits more cards as the mounts are adjustable?

So basically, rev1 or rev2 will both fit.

Idle in my system is around 45c, and goes up to about 65c under an hour of Crysis loops. The figures quoted above must have good case cooling, or they've got some kind of fan on it?
