Age of conan - World of warcraft

think the main active point about is wow is u actually move, where as in conan, u can ignore the movement keys and just press 1,2 or 3

Well you won't be doing a lot of movement as a melee dps class in WoW (though that's not the case in newer raid encounters). In AoC I have to move my Guardian around a fair bit to ensure my aoe attacks hit as many mobs as possible. Neither game exactly requires supremely fast twitch reflexes.

You what? Did you only play this game till level 10 or something? Go on the official forums and search for "circle-strafing"!

Way to show your utter lack of knowledge of mmorpg history. WOW was not ground breaking, at all, it just had mass appeal to kiddies like you.

wow was groundbreaking sweetheart, in the way it was an easy pick up and play game, and was largely very polished from the outset.

your experience of wow obviously is very narrow minded one if u think its over run with kids "apparently like me". infact your right i am a 8 year old child who plays games, i also like posting on these boards before my 8pm bed time.

Before you go being a complete ***** ...................... oops to late, why don't u give some thought into what you post instead of complete unnecessary tripe like your above post.

Yeah i played from 2002-2005. I made a few characters, but mainly played my Tao MutatedSeaBass and i was in DR on Mir for a bit and WoW! I think i remember you talking on Vent when i was playing WoW!

Aye, was in DR on wow, some of my rants while i played a rouge in the BG's where good fun. I was crap at PvP until i got anoyed, then i went on a killing spree witht he sound effects to go with it :)

Well when i was attacking mobs with my 70 frost mage... i would simply spam frostbolt...

nova when they got in close,

get a bit range, and frost bolt again..

so its only a couple of keys.

nothing active about it

Well it depends how you play really. If you're just fighting non elite mobs your level you could throw up frost armour, your ice barrier, scoop 5-6 mobs, hit them with a cone of cold, arcane explosion once or twice then frost them down. Blink to max range, cast a blizzard, cast a second one as they approach, then another cone of cold, keep distance til frost nova is ready again etc. It can be quite involving if you want it to be. Single targets you should have been looking at shatter combos, wind up a frostbolt and nail them with an ice lance at the same time.

In raids it's an entirely different ball game too. Different specs depending on the encounter but you'd be looking at counterspelling, crowd controlling mobs with polymorph, spell stealing at key times. Tanking the mage in Gruul's Lair etc. Making sure you blow all your cooldowns (icy veins, arcane power, trinkets etc) at the right times.

Basically, it's not just frostbolt. It can be a lot more involving if you want it to be.

I found Age Of Conan ok but my problems arose with system performance (x2 3800, 2gb ram, 7800GT). It just performed awfully, and I had to turn the graphics down to below WoW levels just to get 10fps. That really hampered my enjoyment of the game. I struggled to get on with the interface etc but most of that will be improved over time. The main problem though, was I kept wondering what was on tele, or if any mates were off down the pub. It didn't suck me into the world the way warcraft did\does.

They're both good games, and AoC will improve a lot with time but I just prefer WoW, by some margin too.

yep, it really depends on how you play your class. At this moment in time, im in the proccess of leveling a mage (mages ftw:))
I've read numorous reviews, and watched countless gameplay videos, and AoC just doesn't grab my imagination at all. That coupled with the reports of poor performance, just scream "Don't waste your time!"
Maybe in a year or so, i'll see where AoC is at. If it's still popular, and most of the performance bugs are ironed out, I'll give it a try, but for now, I will stick with WoW.

I played from release up untill about a month ago, my WOW experience is quite extensive.

Although it did have one of the most highly polished releases in MMORPG history, it was by no means ground breaking. I would also love to hear of an MMORPG that didnt have good pick up and play qualities. The on exception I can think of is EVE, because it bombards you with the depth of the game from the outset that can be a bit daunting. However, this by no means its any less accessible.

lol, you must have sucked at AoC PvP.

Just to get where I am coming from, I played WOW for the first 3 months of release and AoC for about ten days. WOW was not the game for me as I was not that keen on the graphics and some other things, but for me it is ten times the game that AoC is.

AoC just does not feel like an epic massive roleplaying game. It is like a single player game that has been padded to 80 levels with added multiplayer. The combat may be its one and only strength apart from the graphics, but no subscription fee MMO can survive on this alone. The game is way too simplistic to be a MMO and therefore is just another combat multiplayer game that should not charge a monthly subscription.

PvP is way, way more skilled in WoW than in AoC.

Real PvP that is, no random battlegrounds rubbish.

At the moment, I imagine that is true. However, when people better understand the mechanics etc. of AoC they will be slightly more equal. That being said, from the 25 odd levels I played of AoC before wanting to slit my wrists I noticed perhaps 1/5th of the depth to each class etc. that WoW has.

Still, the only mmorpg with truely skilled PvP is UO, and everyone knows it :p

I bought WoW from the start and got bored at lvl 26 after 2 weeks.

I bought AoC from the start and loving it at lvl 32 after 3 weeks.

The initial 30 day free play is what most people will use to decide whether they will subscribe to any game. Funcom will continue to receive my subscriptions whereas Blizzard (WoW) have not had a single penny out of me from all those years ago.

I personally have not experienced many bugs/faults bar a couple of quests being bugged. I have found AoC's lore to be absolutely involving and with the bi-weekly improvements made, I genuinely cannot wait to see what direction this game takes us.

AoC > WoW (in my opinion).

I have played WoW, LOTRO and Guildwars and from my point of view my faviourite is LOTRO.

However, on the subject of the two games being compared, I cannot comment on AoC having never played it.

However, WoW is fantastic, the game as a whole is easily the best MMO available at the moment, the content updates are far better than any others at the moment. I am sure that AoC may well be able to compete in the future, however, because it is so early on in its lifespan it simply cannot compete with WoW.

The only reason WoW isnt my favourite MMO is because I dont like the whole cartoon effect graphics, which isnt really a reason to slate the game, just personal preference.

just compare end game of WoW and AoC, AoC end game needs soo much work, i hit lvl 80 in 3 weeks with my femaile PoM :D, the game is superb, the first 50 levels, then you have to grind the rest as there are very few quests available and all instances i went apart from sanctum were a total joke, this game just will slowly die when new wow expansion is released, i bet that many wow players just went to try something different and will go back to wow very soon,
