first 4870 review

Hmmm at 1680x1050 it looks like its worth spending the extra and getting a 280

At 1680x1050 the 4870 beats but mostly matches the 280 so i dont know how on earth you work out the 280 is worth the pemuim over the 4870.

Well going by the earlier review, it was a good 10-15% behind on most of the benchmarks, so thats "how on earth" I worked it out

That would be 10-15% behind on performance and 50% on price... I still can't quite work out how it's worth the money.

No logic behind it at all?

I want the best performing card without having to go SLi/Crossfire, I can afford it, what's the problem?

Steedie,

Unless i'm blind or going blind (hmm maybe)

That bench etc shows 1gig gtx280 vs 4870 512

Don't you think 1/2 the amount of memory may have an influence ? (don't take this in a scarcastic way, esiest way i could type in to make sense to me)

Or maybe i'm reading memory doesn't really mean anything ?

Ohh well c'mon ATI he he

Ciao

So in short, this card will be better than my 8800? Will Crysis be playable at 1680 x 1050 with 2x aa and 4 x af?

I don't want to upgrade until there is an affordable card which can play Crysis without chugging along or showing no visable improvement on my existing card.

For Steedie's sake the 1GB 4870 better not make a big difference & be cheaper with it :)

The problem is that rotting in you gut you get when you know you made a wrong purchase and wasted your money, follow that with trying to justify the purchase to people you don't even know.

If your happy with the product there is no need to justify your purchase! Sit back and enjoy it, afterall it cost you an arm and a leg. Why people justify purchases by "well I can afford it" is beyond me. Rich people don't stay rich by throwing money away.

This is the conundrum i am in.

i don't know whether to get a 4870 or not.
