The Mass Effect (PC) Discussion Thread

Not sure if this is a spoiler or not but a word of advice - don't leave your Citadel sidequest missions til the end of the game if you want to complete them, as they'll be impossible to complete after a certain point.

What level have you guys been getting up to near the end of the game? I'm just about to land on Ilos and I'm "only" level 42. Checking my journal I only have 2 or 3 actual sidequests left to do, the others are just the random "find minerals", "find readings", etc ones. A mate of mine was level 48 and well on his way to 49 by the time he finished the game.....

My guess would be how many enemies you have killed?

Does your xp go up if a teammate kills someone?

Well this is what I'm curious about.

My char is a Sentinel so my combat skills are mainly defence orientated, and I usually took Ashley with me on missions to be my "combat support". My friend - who got level 48 - played as a Soldier specced Shepard. Both of us are on first playthrough. I'm guessing I must've lost out on quite a lot of XP simply through my teammates scoring some of the kills.

I've been playing this a couple of hours, I'm in the Citadel and heading towards the Normandy but I'm finding this game, well, ordinary. I waited ages with high expectations, had loads of trouble getting it to run changing drivers and what-not but now, it's, meh!

think you need omnigel for hacking/decryption attempts.
it seems that you can only use omni-gel to hack something if you've got a high enough skill to hack it normally (or a party member has). It's really just to pay to skip the rather poor and pointless hacking minigame which is so easy it's not worth bothering. It can also be used to repair the mako but the only times I took damge were insta kills by thresher maws and geths who just never managed to deplete the shields.

Well, I have done the initial Citadel quests, and completed everything on Noveria, and I am loving the game. My team is about level 22. :)

Installed it a couple of days ago on my Vista partition. Didn't work at first, giving me a "stopped responding" message.

Turned UAC off and it works. How random.

Typical EA, can't be ass'd attitude to pushing games out before they're ready. You'd think they'd fix this but I guess it's quicker and easier to put a few sentences on the EA FAQ instead.

The only technical problems i suffered were before the game began. All down to securom I think. It required being run as admin and turning off windows firewall to get it to start and it still crashes 2 out of every 3 start attempts.

Is the securom thing been removed now?

Just wondering as i want to get this second hand. Wont take the risk if there is still some kind of protection on it.

ok sorted that out, thnx

a few questions though...
there is no way you can switch between players right...?
so how do you take advantage of their higher tech level.. for item revocery and high level security containers?
