All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Couldn't help but slip that last part in there could you?

Well Barry certainly isnt a top class player (he may become one, but he is nowhere near that currently)

Ade is a bit more arguable - but even then he has only had 1/2 of a decent season , Im sure he is capable of doing much better and more likely than Barry to be a top player, and what Milan (or Barca?) are reportedly offering certainly makes him a top prospect

Ronaldo has been consistantly at the top or thereabouts for over two years, considering his age thats as good as you can expect :D

I don't argue that Ronaldo is a better player than Adebayor, but you can't really say he isn't top class with all the teams interested and money involved.

So Barca would be willing to pay £25M plus for a none top class player?

Clearly. Adebayor has had 1/2 a decent season and even then numerous Arsenal fans in here were still complaining about him. There's a reason no Arsenal fans are coming out and saying "We must keep Adebayor".

Shame about the whole Gareth Barry saga - he's been a brilliant servant to us, but now it's all be soured.

I just hope it's resolved quickly, and in a cash deal - £15m+ would be a great result for Villa, irrespective of how good he's been for the club.

Under no circumstances must the names Crouch, Carson, Pennant or Benyaoun, be mentioned as part of this transfer!, please god no!

Where is Benyaoun going to fit into Villa's side? At the end of last season, MON was playing Young in a free role, behind Big John and Gabby - I don't rate Benyaoun and can't see where he will slot in.

As for Crouch - he's miserably failed at Villa before, to the extent we loaned him to the Championship - I don't want to see him bungling around again in the clarent and blue - unless it's Burnley.

If you're going to lose your talisman, you have to take all you can, not waifs and strays.

Adebayour is decent but not world class. If we could get £25m I'm sure we could easily replace him like for like for a lot less or spend the whole lot on a truly top class striker. If these offers are true we should let go, if just paper talk and we keep him then that's ok too tbh.

New Barry bid rejected by Villa
by Tom Adams, 02 July 2008

Aston Villa have confirmed they have rejected another bid from Liverpool for club captain Gareth Barry.

The England international is at the centre of one of the most prolonged sagas of the summer so far with Villa remaining steadfast in their reported £18 million valuation of the player.

Reports on Wednesday claimed that The Reds had tabled a final offer worth £17 million, but this specific suggestion has been rubbished by the Midlanders.

Instead, Villa have revealed that a new offer was received from Anfield but that the latest approach was swiftly denied.

“The report in today’s paper of a £17 million offer for Gareth Barry is inaccurate,” read a club statement.

“The club have received a renewed offer from Liverpool for the player but that still falls well short of Aston Villa’s evaluation, and has subsequently been rejected.”

Barry has been disciplined by Villa after an interview on Sunday in which he criticised manager Martin O’Neill and pleaded for a move to Anfield.
