That would make a big difference as Vista DX9 is emulated under a software wrapper!

Updating as I have disabled the Aero interface in Vista and also disabled all the CPU thermal thottling techs which as you can see has made a big difference now!

well i am getting a 24" montior in a week, if anyone can just do an intensive cod4 session online, or in game, and do the 4xaa 16xaf with max settings at 1920 please?

then try forcing 8xAA via the CCC and see hwo much difference it makes?

itll convince me to get this card over the 4870

Hi m8, only got the COD4 demo installed atm but will have to look into buying myself a copy as the demo is ace!. I wondered does the full version come with different graphic settings because this demo appears to be limited to 4x AA

The demo plays nicely anyway, been through it a few times trying out all the different guns laying around!, using fraps the frame rate varies between 55 fps to 170fps.

On a side note I have just started clocking this card a little, I let CCC find the max but it started Texture Flashing in DMC and Crysis so I kept nudging the memory down a bit until it ran clean. This is still using the stock cooler and with no mods so nothing special . . . but a start none the less!

Just post the results you have with your setup. This is supposed to be an information gathering thread, not some pathological e-penis pumping competition.

I'm still not convinced on your crysis score. Something is amiss. Technology does not suddly offer massive improvements for no reason - it simply is what it is. You should check that everything is being applied properly in-game. Check LOD bias settings etc in your control panel quality options.

On a different note, thanks to everyone contributing. Always nice to see a range of different user benchmarks. The 4850 looks like a great card, even for high-res gaming.

May I suggest you start a new thread called: Radeon HD4870 1680 x 1050 Benches Please!

A Radeon HD4870 running games at 1680x1050 is gonna be SCREAMING!!!!!! :eek:

I know this means there will be a few different threads but I reckon it will make it tons easier for peeps to compare kit instead of trawling through one-size-fits-all-thread.

Some of these benchmarks look very unreal to me.

I can only get 48 FPS on the same test with a 4870 @ 1024x768 and even that is without AA applied as it drops with that enabled so struggling to see how some can get a lot more than me when the test is GPU bound.

I suggest you just focus on the genuine scores. When Mixyyy produces an ORB result with his card people will give him some credibility. Until then, the old "if it looks too good to be true..." adage applies.

0x AA = 32.295
2x AA = 22.615
4x AA = 20.135
8x AA = 22.785

Ok you guys were right, there does seem to be a bug of some kind in the above tests? Not sure if this is the benchmark tool, the game or the ATI driver?

Pretty much done with Crysis now but will come back to it one more time when I worked out the final overclocked on the HD4850 and add a few more MHz to the CPU speed.

P.S: if anyone knows some good game demos that can be benched pls post a link here, ta!
