*** The iPhone 3G Thread ***

actually it does, the sim has to be 3g enabled, my age old o2 sim wasn't and had to be replaced with a new one when i got a 3g capable handset....

my old sim was 4 years old tho!

Well I didn't bother joining in todays happenings!

By the looks of it, kinda glad I stayed in my nice warm bed haha.

I think playing around with the new features & apps will keep me busy till I can easily walk in a store and have my iPhone of choice without any frustration people have experienced today!

:)

Where can you activate other than iTunes? What do you mean about f5 key for activation?

Think he means in this thread for info.

I have to keep unpluging my USB from the laptop end to get the phone to re detect to look for the server, i'm going to wear out my USB port soon, work won't be happy!

ok not actually pressing f5 for refresh but clicking on the store then back on the iphone in itunes to refresh the page!

(you found me out!)

and in honesty it'd be apple + r

Here's hoping that stock levels are replenished ASAP.

At least, I'm hoping to come back from holidays in 2 weeks and be able to get one somewhere. The manager of the 02 shop I was at today said they were due some on Wednesday, but declined to take orders or reserve any (guy asked behind me).

Bit gutted that I couldn't grab one today.. I wasn't going to go down 4hrs in advance to get one though! Half an hour is bad enough.. felt like an eternity, plus I felt knackered in work.

It boggles the mind how 02 and Apple managed to bungle this one. Moreso 02 (I think). They knew demand was insane after last week's online ordering fiasco, so they either did too little to compensate for the interest (in terms of increasing / optimising server loads handling capacity), or they did nothing and hoped that things would hold under the pressure (which they didn't).

In my eyes they would have done better to NOT to have the online pre-ordering, and keep what little stock they had for the launch day.

It doesn't bode well for the UK.. methinks we'll get a less-than-generous stock allocation. What with Japan and US being the two biggest markets.. it makes sense for them to keep their biggest fanbase happy :(

I just flick between the store and phone. Same effect.

This is my first iPhone and I just want to get to play!

UPDATE!

Just this second got a load of text's from o2 telling me my passwords and such and my iphone is now working so i can use it at least, still not activated it.

Seems like keeping it switched on works for new users :)

Maybe O2 have been authorized to do it the traditional way.

aagh...... now i only have a set of 5 coffee mugs!

today has been a monumental male chicken up for both o2 and apple.

according to my first sales guy (the one i made refresh there server 100 times just incase the upgrade option worked) o2 spend several million upgrading there servers by 500% and that didn't work.

then when i went back they told me i wasn't eligible for an upgrade as i'd onlu had my iphone v1 for 3 months.... i put them straight.

and now the itunes server.

i'm suitably impressed

I just got mine activated and got the texts. I couldn't complete all the info they wanted, as it timed out again when I tried to submit. However, my hone works and I've got an itunes account.

Now, how to I get the apps I bought onto my phone?
