Why do they bother?

I'm quite annoyed at the fact that Golf GTIs seem to be a Traffic Light GP target for chavs in their Corsas and Puntos (at least around my way) :( It's driving me mad.

I usually ignore them but if I've had a crap day, am on my own, and the roads are quiet I'll give it a go :D

Being pedantic for a moment I don't really see how you can sit on a high horse one minute and then in the very next paragraph say "I'll do it if I've had a bad day though :D". If you're going to be principled at least stick to them properly.

You either do the whole street racing, traffic light GP thing or you don't - it's not a grey area. Personally I could give a crap about hooning it around the streets and drag racing from the lights - mainly because I'm not auditioning for Fast & Furious 4: Wiltshire Crew

I generally don't hoon it around the streets thinking I'm playing Gran Turismo r whatever they play these days :p Maybe it's just me, but if I've had a crap day and some chav pulls alongside with his kool modz Corsa, revving it to high heaven, it feels good to floor it and say "bye bye" :)

At least in my mind, there is a bit of a difference between actively looking to play TLGP at every single opportunity and taking the bait once in a blue moon. I'm sure plenty of people on here are guilty of the latter case.

*shrug* Just seemed odd to me that you would complain earnestly about "people looking to play with Golf GTIs at the lights all the time" and then admitting to giving them exactly what they want in the next paragraph. You're the architect (albeit a small one) of your own vexation. :)

Wow, totally awesome. Do you also drive with your sunroof open, becuase you can? It seems like a rather odd thing to do really. I can't see any need to switch it off in normal driving when giving people a lift, let alone drift around roundabouts whilst doing so.

No, I tend to drive with half the Window down though.

I suspect you are an internet driving hero and that nothing of the sort really happens in your car.

:\

What car?

*Cough* C320CDI Estate */Cough*

Will be buying a C55 AMG Estate, soon.

EDIT: Even when the ESP is off, it generally in Mercs, is still on somewhat. I've driven with ESP on and OFF, and yes the car seems more controllable with it on, but I've used to with it being off. I do tend to nearly always drive as a sane driver, it's just when I get into a mood where I'll be a loony. Put it this way, I don't do corners so my tyres screech like a Virgin Nun. And that's with ESP off.

Fair point and taken :) Perhaps that thought will make me leave the bait untouched a bit more in future.

Had a funny moment today, mother was driving in her Celica t-sport and I noticed a nice orange Focus ST behind. A slower car turned left off the road so I told her to boot it and see if she notices the kick after 6'000 rpm, she floors it through the gears whilst the guy in the focus is grinning and right up to the bumper, mum remarks "Ooooh i've never had it do that before!" and then slows down, the guy in the focus eventually overtakes and glances sideways looking slightly puzzled at a 5' 50ish woman in the drivers seat :D

nice story, but in a way by 'teaching a lesson' you did exactly what she 'maybe' was trying to do...

she was prolly thinking 'what the hell is that guy trying to do'

don't get me wrong though, I just LOVE tlgp, it's like being at santa pod every set of lights.. a lot of fun as well.

lol, I can imagine it, some people it seems cant imagine it at all and just like to question everything, you had a bit of fun nothing wrong with that, especially with your mum in the car haha.

Cymatty - Sorry to see whats happened to your light hearted thread. There are always people on here who will come out and give you the kid killer, driving like a £$%£ rubbish because for some reason they feel they are on some kind of moral high horse.

Put simply you destroyed her off the lights to show her that just because she's in a fast merc doesn't mean she owns the road etc. Was a nice story, but I hate when people ruin someones casual thread like this
