Argos going on strike

I worked in a warehouse and was on £12k a year and these guys are moaning, I am sure they have FLT and LOLOP.

I get a mental image of them load a washing machine onto a wagon by hand.

Unions are a waste of time, GMB tried to strike then agreed a deal with Asda and shafted everyone.

So banks and businesses can protect themselves from inflation, but not ordinary workers? (not saying the staff in this example are right or wrong to strike)

If I was the MD of Argos I would tell managers to put a map of Poland on the wall in the canteen. 'Nuff said. Leftie loons are ruining this country. Sack the *******!

That said, I don't want the Poles here either. :p

I lived on 12k for around 5 years whilst studying and paying for my rent, food, studies and OcUK stuff.

Sack em all tbh!

I love strikes.

Argos staff: "We want more money."

Argos CEO: "Sales are down, profits are down, we can't afford it."

Argos staff: "So what, give us more or we strike."

Argos CEO: "We will lose more money, how will that help you get a increase?"

Argos staff: "So what, give us more or we strike."

I mean are these people so oblivious to the current economic climate?

Let's think about a subsistence wage shall we? The 'minimum' wage in this country is still taxed so how the **** can it be called a minimum wage. Eh?

i'm not saying it is good just pointing out the fact 17k is good value!

It is - I'm trying to point out the general attitude towards staff that ask for pay increases is stupid. In this case I wouldn't complain about £17k, its the prejudice that bothers me.

I'm perfectly aware what it is like living on significantly less (less than £10k) than the Argos warehouse staff. So don't think I'm being unrealistic - I simply see both sides of the coin so to speak.

There demands are ridiculous, they need to get there head out of there bums and have a go at the government for the rising living costs, no reasonable pay rise can counteract the rising costs that the average family now faces. Whats more if an employer does it will only feed the problem !

Course, Brown is sorting it out by telling us to throw away less food, way to go...

I worked at Argos when I was a student and its certainly no easy job. Our store was so under staffed is was crazy. I had to sometimes deal with refunds, take orders and give them out on my own! When not doing that you could be 'picking', which involved 10-12hours of walking round a warehouse taking customers orders to the front.

Exactly; people don't realise everything that goes on.

Lets hope this isn't the start of something bigger. Lots of strikes and high wage rises could cause big inflationary problems. Why the governmetn can't just get it in to there thick skulls that they must do somthing about the increasing cost of living.

Like what? Due to Brown's incompetence we're already way over the EU limits on government borrowing and that's despite the government gaining a huge amount from increased VAT on fuel. Any measures which temper the increased cost of living will simply tip the government's budget further into the red at a time when they need to be reducing the deficit. The joys of a government whose only response to anything is to chuck money at it...
