Really wierd, not nice feeling!

Same thing happened when I was younger, up some mountain flying model gliders. Rabit on road, back half squashed, front half ok, still alive, trying to pull it self along with its front legs. Decided that it would be better to put it out of its misery there and then. So it was up with a huge rock/boulder, and bam, lights out. RIP

I felt pretty awful for killing Bambi. I was driving home from work (5am) and had spotted a lorry ahead of me which was shedding boxes from it's trailer. I was taking care to avoid them but there where quite a few smaller ones the I could drive over without any problem. Anyhoo, scooting down the local 'A' road at 60mph and spotted another small box, no probs thought I but unfortunately the box shape turned out to be the hind legs of a very young fawn, something which only dawned on me when it decided to look up when I was about 20ft from it. Absolutly nothing I could do about it and it was pretty sickening to hear it's head being battered off the front bumper of my car. Not a pleasant experiece at all. :(

Still, I've also saved quite a few from grass fires and even went to the aid of a young deer that had got itself stuck in some railings. It's amazing how docile they get when they seem to realise that you are trying to help them.

Hardly dangerous considering she checked her mirrors before stopping :) If there was cars behind she would have probably just carried on and turned around.

OTT? Maybe, but people react differently to things :)

Did you not know that Phate is the perfect example of a perfect driver? I mean, it's not like he's wrote off his car or anything..

No, wait - think I'm confused here.

You put it in the hedge with a broken squished rear end and left it there to die ??

What a compassionate fella you are!

Should have punched your mother in the ovaries and nuked the rabbit with 2 feet.

When you have sawn a dead calf up whilst still half stuck out the back of a pregnant cow you can feel no lower mate!

I agree the most compassionate thing to do would probably to have been to put it out of it's misery, but you tried to help. The fact you're upset about it shows you are compassionate. I'd like to think I could kill a rabbit to end it's suffering but if push came to shove, I'm not sure I could. :(

Probably looking at the rabbit and going...

MINE !

Phil, next time your in the yard at Culina, look at the trucks, most have killed a fair few bunnies!

Don't feel bad about it, it happens.

I'm surprised you have not been upset by the yard shunters killing Rabbits on site? - I saw this a few times last summer up there.

Man up!

Dead bunnies bother me? No. Half dead bunnies bother me? No. Bunnies with myxomatosis running around blind smashing into things bother me? No. The crunch baby bunnies make as they get run over bother me? No.

I'm confused, you describe it as if it's entire rear end had been squashed flat, and then you say it ran off and disappeared? How badly hurt WAS it?

A friend of mine ran over one a while ago, as in quite properly ran it over so that we felt a jolt and heard two loud thumps as front AND rear wheel ran it over. I convinced him to drive back so we could finish it off out of mercy, but when we got there it was just sitting there, on the side of the road a good way from where we hit it, no visible wound on it, and it darted away at the speed of sound as soon as got out of the car, dumbfounded, to check how badly hurt it was. That was one tough bunny, and I'm scared it's going to come back for us!

Ran one flat a few weeks ago in a jeep on the North York Moors by accident.

Got one Rabbit in the Fridge and one in the Freezer at the moment.

They make great pies & stews.
Hang on, not the same one you ran over, right? I know technically there can't be that much difference whether it was shot or run over when you're eating it, but there's something about the thought of eating roadkill that just seems... wrong!

worst thing i've had to do was put a lamb out of it's misery, after crows had pecked out its eyes, tongue and most of it's innards (was definitely bleeding to death, had no hope)

was in the middle of the field, with no rocks around

hate thinking about that :(

I'm intrigued by your chosen method.
