Dell 2709 Discussion Thread

The spiel on the OC website says:

"Each monitor is thoroughly tested and backed by a Dell Limited Warranty. The versatile UltraSharp flat panel monitors are protected by Dell’s Premium Panel Guarantee – that’s our promise to replace your monitor if even one bright pixel is discovered during the limited warranty period. There is no replacement for customer satisfaction."

Take it this refers to stuck and not fully dead pixels

Isn't a dead pixel the same as a stuck pixel? To me it is; stuck on dead.

No, dead is a pixel that is clear i.e. it no longer illuminates.

A stuck pixel can be any colour, but remains that colour, more distracting especially on darker backgrounds.

Looks seriously tempting, just need to hear from someone *cough* Baddass about any input lag and the like !

Only £30 odd more than the 2408 makes the extra 3" very temping!

Shame my wall mount prolly can't take the extra weight :(

Having just checked my wall mounts specs it says it takes up to 15kg and the Dell site says the 2709 is only 8.3kg so weight wise it would be fine it seems. However the specs say that my mount is only capable of supporting up to 26" screens so would the 2709 be too much for it I wonder ...

what's the input lag likely to be on my Viewsonic vx2025? I've got no CRT monitor about to test it with and I've got a VP171s sitting next to it. Now, it's an older monitor so I'd expect it to be not as good as anything more recent, so as long as the 2709 isn't going to be noticably worse than the viewsonic, I'd be happy to take the huge step up from 20" to 27".

I doubt I'm good enough at twitch shooters for 40ms to make much difference to be honest.

Input lag tends to be creeping upwards, not getting better. It's to do with the ever more overzealous RTC (overdrive) to get the refresh rate numbers down in the spec column.

It's true, my 2001fp is a 16ms panel and it doesn't bother me in the slightest when I game on it - playing all kinds of games fairly often. The much older LG 1710B I have is also 16ms I believe and that was a decent monitor in its day ...

If this is 'perceivably' about the same then I wouldn't mind laying down the money for one :)

Don't confuse response time and input lag btw. Anyway, 49 ms is basically three frames late, compared to my 2007WFP which is just one (average lag 11ms). I've never used a screen with 50ms lag so I'm just guessing what it's like, but I suspect I would notice it.

Oh well, back to waiting for 2408WFP A01 revision.

I find this some what frustrating...a new monitor is launched and everyone waits with baited breath to see if it is in-fact all they had hoped for.

Only to be disapointed:mad:

Can no single manufacturer get thier arse into gear and supply us with:
  • good quality
  • non TN 24-27" monitors
  • low input lag
  • excellent build quality
  • with zero dead pixel guarantees,
  • 2ms response
  • zero backlight bleed
All for around £450 ?

no one ???:confused::eek::p
Jesus !

who really cares wether it's got 2ms response though? I seriously don't notice any problems with a 6-8ms response time, so if they made a big screen with no input lag or dead pixels, I'd be quite happy for it to have a bigger response time. I just don't want it to be lagging more than my current really old LCD.

Indeed, the 2 ms isn't such a big deal, and TBH I can't remember a 2 ms screen that wasn't a TN. My list would be-

- 5-6ms response time
- non-TN with good viewing angles
- input lag of no more than one frame (16 ms or less)
- £450 max price
- reliable
- decent customer service

but I don't think there is anything (unless someone knows otherwise?). I guess the Yaraku gets somewhere close. I can't see the 2408WFP input lag dropping by more than half.

I'm tempted to get a 2709 anyway - that price for that size would be great for movies even with the lag surely. Going from 20" to 27" is going to be such a huge step!

I was being a little sarcastic though guys:rolleyes:...so the 2ms response time was just the ultimate:p

I too would settle for a 6-8 ms respone if the input lag was less than say 30ms
