Dell 2709 Discussion Thread

Am seriously consider one of these also, OcUK has ETA: 18/07/08 so can pre-order now or wait and see if available tomorrow. Also with the Saturday standard delivery charge special I hope I can get for this Saturday. It's either this or the 2408WFP, it's seems the only negative is the input lag, what's the input lag on the 2408WFP vs the 2709? how much worse for a cheaper and larger monitor? hmm which to buy need some first hand reviews!

Seems to be about 50 ms on this and about 65 ms on the 2408WFP. The 2408 is getting a revision though, so if you want one of those it might be worth waiting a month.

So you from what you are saying this is better in all aspects than the 2408WFP and it will be cheaper when available.... something seems wrong with that, then it's a no brainer getting the 2709? don't really want to wait a month....

Neither, if gaming is important to you you'd be best served finding something else. Unfortunately there's a dirth of quality screens that tick all the boxes at 24" currently so you may be looking for a while. The BENQ 241 which is getting difficult to find is good (MVA panel, low input lag etc), or the Hyundai PVA 24" model is also fair.

Dell seem to have completely lost it recently monitor wise.

Well it's a new screen so you're always taking a risk, that's one reason not to rush out and buy one straight away. I would always wait for a few user reviews. Plus from the prices I'm looking it, it's £50 more than the 2408WFP, and I think OcUKs price may well go up when Dell take it off special offer price. And the 2408WFP is getting revised which hopefully will sort out the issues it has.

But assuming there's no major issues with it (beyond the input lag which will only affect gamers really) then yeah it looks comfortably the better buy of the two. The only downside to 27" is they use the same res as 24" so the pixels are bigger.

Well I ordered the 2408WFP yesterday arrived this morning very nice. Although the colours are off esp red/orange is noticable on the firefox icon. What's the best way to calibrate this... is their some software to download or a webpage?

Thanks, m.

I have my 2707WFP sold provisionally and can basically buy a new 2709W with the proceeds. Mainly interested in it for the hdmi. The question is it worth the risk considering the lack of reviews around. So far I have only seen Cnet mention input lag and a single user on the Dell talk forums. Then again Cnet said the 2707 has ghosting and colour-tracking artifacts none of which I have noticed, except maybe if you move the mouse cursor very fast you might see some ghosting/afterglow. I need to make my mind up fast as I can basically get a 2709w for 450 euro after discount. I play a wide variety of games from rts to fps to rpg but would not consider myself a competitive or hardcore gamer so not sure how lag would affect me or even if it is present in my current 2707 which I find excellent. Any opinions ?

If the input lag was 20 instead of 50 I would get one.

:(

Same....I was hoping for around 30 but I am heavily into my games, many Fast paced FPS online and 3 FPS can mean the difference between winning and being an also ran.

I guess the 26" Hazro is the only alternative at this price and size ??

According to the Prad review it's 47 I think. And the 2707WFP which I just sold was 45 according to a Tftcentral review. I never noticed any input lag on the 2707 to be honest. So I reckon I will be ok with the 2709. It works out at 365 sterling for me including shipping with a 3 year warranty after discount. Can't say no to that to be honest.
