sim city 4

This game runs like a dog on my system :(

Really? Ran fine on my P3-700 back in the day unless you had an utterly huge city.

Is rush hour much better/worthwhile addition to sim city 4? I guess it adds more road options streight away?

Rush Hour is included in Sim City 4 Deluxe. From memory it adds avenues (dual carriageway), one way streets and toll booths. Mass transit is improved - elevated rail and monorail options are added where the original had only subway and rail. There's a few other minor tweaks like commuting tracking as well.

Rush hour is a must really. Deluxe is a cheap way to get it. NAM= Network Addon Mod or something, grab from simtropolis and it does all sorts of nice things like better path finding for commuters etc. Does make it easier, but it's more realistic.

Thing it adds ferries too, which are very usefull.

Add this to all your shortcuts command lines:

Code:
-Intro:off -CPUCount:1

It greatly reduced the crashes for me, from like one every 30 minutes to once every 8 hours... And I suspect that single crash was caused by something else...

I've been having performance problems mainly. It was pretty bad on my old XP2600+ when I had a big city (my largest one had something like 150,000 people), but I've since reinstalled the game on my E6600 and I have awful performance regardless of town size :(

Does this game have a hatred for dual cores?

Ouch. Not considered running Boot Camp to XP and then you will be able to play many more games cheaper?

Don't like having Windows on my Mac. I did have Sim City 4 and Windows on this but decided to go pure Mac, I just hate the idea of two operating systems.

It's not a 'Mac thing', I hate dual-booting as a whole.

Hopefully it'll run okay, if it doesn't then I'll cry. And kill snowdog.

Check back earlier in the thread, gets a bit narky with some new graphics cards - things have moved on a bit in 5 years. Wierdly I'm getting crap performance on XP and very good on Vista64.

Does anyone know if there's a mod that will enable automatic funding of schools, clinics, etc.

It's a pain having to go to each individual school, college, library, clinic, hospital, etc. and adjust the funding. I'd prefer to spend my time actually building the city.

The easiest way would be to go to your financial screen, and there click on health and education, then in that window click either health or education, it will show the list of all education or health facility's, the people using it, the current capacity & usage , and sliders to adjust the funding, ( to each of them separately, or one slider for all of them) saves you from going to all of them manually on the map.

Once you get enough income just put them all on 100% funding, at least I do, saves a lot of time micromanaging while I have enough money anyways...

Any possible way to get this game in window mode? Its a must really imo to quickly access stuff online and also put some music on etc.., the game music is crap and its boring quiet lol.

-CustomResolution:enabled -r1440x900x32 -w

just change the res to what you want, put this in your shortcut

this will play it at the set resolution in a window!
