METAL GEAR SOLID 4 - Disappointed Thread *NO SPOILERS*

Thank god they didn't listen to the MGS2 naysayers on cutscene length as MGS4 would've been a lesser experiance. Remember it is trying to tie up 20 years worth of histroy for the fans which was the main aim of the title.

I thought MGS2 was heavier than 4. Especially at the end of 2, I was like wtf just happened.

Yeah the pacing and sudden plot twists didn't help though I kind of got what he was trying to say. If you watch the making of documentray one of Kojima's regrets was making mgs2 too complicated. I reckon he did the best job he could when writing mgs4.

Maybe so, but my point is the length of cutscenes. It feels in 4 that they just put the cutscenes in to finish the game of and missed gameplay out because they want to tell you what is happening.

On 2 its like they want to tell you but also play it for yourself.

Ive done 2 so far.... and they seem like bosses that dont have a great reflection on the story.

The implemention of the BB Corps in MGS4 is truly pathetic. They may well have left them out. Absolutely zero interaction between the beasts and the Outer Haven leaders, save for a 30 second interaction between Vamp and Octopus that had nothing to do with the plot whatsoever. The backstory wholly explained by Drebin in a small minute segment over the codec of all places - after you beat them - really is a brain fart and a momumental screwup on Kojima's part. We were promised a big backstory interwoven with psychological suspense and emotion and never got it. The deaths and monologues of each BB member is identical.

Just a boss fight, and a small sit-under-the-tree-at-halloween-and-tell-scary-story-with-torch-lit-on-face from Drebin.

Snake Eater has a much better boss/plot contingent. In fact, so does MGS2. There was still a back-story behind even Fatman, argubly the least admired boss of the series, and how he was deliberately left out of the loop of the SSS program by the other members of Dead Cell. I could go on and on.

TLDR: Beauty and the Beasts SUCKS and is the only letdown of MGS4

Hmm...I think they just had a lot to fit in as they are piecing everything together. I still think that it would be better with more gameplay but there is still enough imo, especially if you are aiming for no alerts or continues. I think a lot of people like the cutscenes as well abeit mainly the fans but Kojima stated that 4 will be aimed at the more hardcore MGS audience. Best thing to do really is to learn the story then just play it with skipping the cutscenes. Personally for me I enjoyed all the cutscenes, but am a bit of fanboy and was well into the story and the character depth.

Err? Are you a chimney?

I can't believe you have put MGS4 and disappointed in the same sentence

Im sorry but your being a sheep if you say you werent dissapointed. Unless you expected no gameplay.

I wouldnt have cared if they said its £20 because its the finale and isnt really a big game. But £40 and no gameplay makes Shep a dull boy.

Right... i understand what your saying but... i was sat there with my mate and watching a cutscene and there is unnecessary bits which just add to the strain of "WHEN CAN I PLAY?!?!?!" - if you dont know which bits i mean - just the lovey dovey stuff thats like Coronation Street or something.

I loved it, and I'm the sort of person who would usually skip cutscenes. Didn't in this case though as they were great. Everytime one started I kicked back and had an urge for popcorn.

It's genuinely the most engrossing game I've ever played (personally) and I enjoyed every moment of it.

It's actually quite emotional game! that only game that ever to manage that was final fantasy 7!

But then again I've played and love all the metal gears so i guess im bias.

Maybe it's me but I actually enjoyed all the FMV, added to the whole experience.

Anyway, each to their own. ;)

So anyone who likes MGS4 and wasnt disappointed by it is a sheep now?

Who are you to tell us what to like or what not to? Bloody kids these days.

Who you calling a Kid?

At the end of the day its my opinion and i think after this long wait... its disgusting they call this a game. I agree they cover all the points and are finishing the story nicely but i felt they could have added more gameplay. But i think (my personal thought) when people say they like it, its because they didnt want to be disappointed by the game (but they are).

Ive done it before with a franchise/series of games... such as GTA.... 1 & 2 were great and so was 3 and all its spin offs. But 4 was terrible but i said it was good because i wanted it to be... but looking at it... its not as good as the hype and didnt have the effect the rest of them did on me. I think i was expecting more from GTA and MGS4 but have been let down and cant justify £40 for it.

Im not here to offend anybody or cause arguments but im just really, really disappointed so far.

As I played the game I quickly worked out which cut scene to ignore drebin ones and so on....

This is still imo bench mark for future games! The game play is just fantastic and it looks amazing

TBH thats BS as I was impressed with the game more than I could have imagined, and I wouldnt lie about it, probably like the majority of the people that have played the game! Why would anyone want to make things up like that? Youre in the minority.
