Illegal downloads

i remeber i used to leave my comp on over night and day, i could dl something like 20gb each day, films games, tv series etc

According to you is it thus dishonest to lend a DVD to a friend? The artist doesn't make money out of that either...

And he would be quite correct.
Have you ever actually read the license etc on a DVD?
You aren't allowed to actually lend them to anyone you like.

It is.

Back of a DVD said:
The copyright proprietor has licensed this DVD and its soundtrack for private home use only...

Any unauthorised copying, editing, exhibition, lending, renting, public performance, diffusion and/or broadcast of this DVD is strictly prohibited.
Admitting to it is one thing but I've never quite understood how people justify their download of films, music and games without paying.

back of dvd case.

I really don't care what the back of DVD case says. Saying that you can't lend (in regards to non-commercial lending) has absolutely no legal merit to it and is NOT enforceable.

I can't believe at least two people think its morally wrong to allow a friend to borrow a DVD...madness

As you've already suggested in the other thread that you support infringement of other peoples IP and hard work whilst posting that if someone did the same to you you would use the law and courts to enforce your rights i find it hard to take your posts on the subject particularly seriously.

im just wondering about all the guys complaining about those that sometimes download stuff(like myself) without paying for it.....do u pay for everything on the net yourselves ?
what about the porn you view ?
do you subscribe to all the porn sites ?
have you ever watched part of a porn movie that was more than the released trailer ?
what about pics ? porn or other ...maybe there was some copyright on them too.

the copyright doesnt apply to just hollywood movies or games

You well know I didn't say that. I said and gave reasons why I disagree with the law as it now stands. I, at the same time and in a post that was really very clear, also said that of course you use rights under existing legislation because it would be silly not to. Please try not to skew my posts for the purposes of making a cheap shot.

Well, it clearly states the license agreement whether you agree with it or not.

Of course it is, it's just not practical or realistic that's all.

Good one, fini. I don't see anywhere that I've posted saying it's morally wrong to lend a DVD to a mate. I've done it plenty of times, but it's still wrong to do so according to the license agreement.

Possibly just monitored the torrent. Saw a list of all peers, and tracked the IPs.

Well yes, but how do they jump to the conclusion that every leecher on the tracker downloaded something from her? She could have just shared with a few people, unless I'm missing something?

And yet you seem to suggest it's morally right to rip off someone else's labour if it happens to suit your particular desires...

There are of course degrees in all things. Only the most naive or argumentative would suggest that lending a DVD that you have paid for to a friend is the same as ripping of hundreds of GBs a month of other peoples hard work. Granted it still strictly speaking is depriving the author of their entitled rewards. Having said that, personally I am happy to accept that as the licence gives you permission to watch a DVD with the friend in my house, or take it to their house and watch it with them there, me not being there at the time is something I could live with I suspect. If you are suggesting lending it to 100 or 200 "friends" I'd see it differently.

Yes we all have our own moral guidelines and level of acceptable honesty. Would I drive at 75mph in a 70mph zone sometimes, probably. Would I take the points and fine without whining if I got caught, yes I would. Is doing 75mph in a 70 the same as doing 75mph in a 30mph zone (despite both breaking the law) no, of course it's not.

it is technically the same speed tho so yes doing 75mph regardless of where you are doing it is 75mph......I'll be quiet now :p
