Illegal downloads

Drilling a hole in it wouldn't wipe it. Grilling it might, I don't know.

i) Open drive.
ii) Remove the platters.
iii) Cut each platter into very small pieces.
iv) Get Monsieur Mangetout to eat the pieces.

Well I have just been what I consider "had" by DRM.

For a laugh I wanted to have a play with Virtual DJ only to find out that I can not use music I have purchased via iTunes.

Now I am not going to start downloading illegal music but I can understand why people do.

not just drm, but it's free, and there is also a lot more stuff that isn't as mainstream that would be a lot harder to find on places like iTunes.

You can remove the drm protection from itunes music using "QTFairUse".

imo, games are plenty cheap, and the cost just cannot be used an an excuse for not paying for them..
Well you can get games for free by downloading, it's a good enough excuse to download games really, free versus paying money, what do you think is more tempting?

Plus not everybody has the money to just randomly buy a game if they fancy it, I know I don't!

My dad asked me how to wipe a drive as he was throwing one away, I told him to stick it on the BBQ or stick a drill through it, job done.

Hammer. Repeat until platters are little pieces (easy on drives with glass platters but more fun on normal ones as you have to repeatedly bash the drive)

I can steal stuff from Tesco's for free, it's a good enough excuse to shoplift stuff really.

I can mug old ladies for free, it's a good enough excuse to mug them really.

Grow up.

Not really, if you can;t see the diference of copying somthing and stealing, you need to grow up.

Stop trying to make pointless arguments to envoke an emotional response.

I didn't say I can't see the difference.

I can get stuff for free if I take it from the shelf at Tescos. That's a fact. It's theft, but I can get stuff for free so it's a good enough excuse to steal.

I believe this to be 'direct theft' rather than which I believe downloading pirate material is 'indirect theft'.

Ah right!

So, I get someone else to steal stuff from Tescos, then I steal it from them.. that way I haven't directly stolen from the shop. Job's a good'un!

Cheers mate :)

I have, and do download films, but usually end up buying the films I download on DVD anyway, at least 80% of the time; the other 20% would be the ones I want but I feel are too expensive* or were **** and deleted.

In a way, I personally view downloading films like rental, as I am viewing the movie to see if it's worth a purchase. Yes I know this is faltered logic, but it's how I personally view it.

Just touching on the price of films - I have no idea how much they cost to manufacture, but (last time I checked the high street), new releases were ranging from £10 to £15, unless there were deals on etc.
If, for arguments sake, it cost £1 to manufacture and distribute one DVD, charging £5 would be acceptable I feel, it's cheap enough to dissuade piracy, and there is still a good margin of profit.

As for music and games, I haven’t downloaded those for years and can’t see myself doing so any time soon.

How do I feel about downloading? It’s hard to say really, I guess because it’s ‘faceless’ I don’t see the harm, that’s not to say I am totally blind to the problems it is causing, but it is often far easier to set a download running over night, than it is to trek into town, fight the crowds and buy a physical copy.

I would be more than happy to pay an extra fee on my broadband subscription, if all the distributors got together and provided an online marketplace where you could download films at great speeds – I would even accept DRM on the files I downloaded, so long as it was an ‘honest’ DRM; not installing hidden things etc.

Just my 2p.

Scort.

You are just trying to find away of justifying what you know is wrong.

I don't think I am. I still think the majority of piracy on films, would be solved if A. they were cheaper, and B. there was more modern distribution, not necessarily both mind you, for example most supermarkets do great discounts on films and I often pick up a dozen when shopping.

I think the fact remains, if a DVD is only a couple of quid, then it’s pointless to download it, unless you are an utter cheap skate, and in the case, there’s little help for you.

Scort.
