I think the mixed reception could also be down to the amount of different ways to actually play this game, first game I started I was a jerkivore - just going around eating and beating on everything I could.

Started a new game as an exclusively herb munching char, made a cute little furry white thing and it's just...more fun and the world is a nicer place. ^^

Still only gotten up to the tribal..phase yet.

heres a wee vid of me playing it (res was lowered to 800x600 for fraps), showing how large the game acutally is lol... ive made some enemies (guys in the red) and some alliances (guys in green), im still learning stuff, sure its a bit repetative. but dont forget, that at anypoint you feel your not enjoying it, just change how you play lol, like i was a warrior, tried taking stuff by force and i got bored, so i started to trade, make trade lanes and help out other people, now im loving it :) exploring and buying off planets to widen my empire and eventually rule the galaxy :D

sound buggered up, but meh

niggles are that sli doesnt work and the textures could be much better, but i spose a game of this size would be huge in gigs if the textures were high res :(

Don't like it at all. Every phase seems extremely repetitive, under-developed and simple in a bad way. It's like every phase is a bad version of a game in that genre.
 
when you got to the space stage did anyone find anything other than, space civ's/wild animals?

Anyone come across tribes/the civ war stage yet?
 
Has anyone thought that the game may be a whole lot better from tomorrow when Sporepedia kicks in or is all the activation stuff enabled already before the official release date. I guess I'm concerned that there are so many negative comments about this after looking forward to it for so long. I think it was the concept of the game that grabbed me.

no i mean when you;re in the space stage, have you ever found a planet in that stage?

All the ones i saw where either barren/wild or had a space civ on them.

no tribes no civs :(
 
Its interesting to see the amount of people on here who have said that this would be the best game ever, and now won't even try it due to this DRM stuff. What happened to buying a game to play the game? And all this about 2 days before release. What's the point in pre-ordering months in advance if your just going to jump at the slightest hint of limited installs or it not meeting expectations and cancel.

It seems another popular game will fall to its own expectations. I've still got it pre-ordered and eagerly await its arrival. It's a shame it doesn't seem to be the game it could have been, but if it was, it would potentially be the best game of all time. As it is, it still seems to be a great game and worthy of a go.

well got my copy today and have to say have had a lot of fun with it so far.

The creature creator is extremely easy to get to grips with and the game seems to be extremely polished. I can see me loosing many hours to this game. :)

I'm still very early on in the game and have only just hit land so will have to see where the game takes me from here.
