Do people actually care?

Fear basically

It's the human condition, we need to filter out all the crap or we would go insane. You have to be desensitised or you could not really exist from day to day.
This ^^^

You can't spend your whole life feeling guilty because of the poor luck of other people. Whether their dog's been run over, their child has gone missing, they've been born into a warzone, or into a persecuted race - what can you do, really?

I mean, yes give to the charitable organisations, yes maybe join one of the Forces or the Police, or even travel to help build schools or water wells in Africa - every little does help /someone/.

But you can't and shouldn't spoil your own life, or render your life devoid of fun (unless your idea of fun is decapitating kittens maybe. Or babies. Unless they're ugly babies).

What you /can/ do is remember to feel lucky, thank God or fate or chance or whatever you please, that you're not in such a situation. And do indeed help people along the way, spread a little good and a little kindness and maybe that'll spread some happiness too...

As said by many people above me - there's no use making yourself feel constantly bad or leaving yourself out-of-pocket in a vain attempt to feed all the children, save all the fluffy bunnies and eradicate corrupted governments.

Oh goody, a few starving families get some more grain to feed them another day (which is all they will get, day-to-day survival, for their governments are corrupt and won't feed the wealth down into real infrastructure and development - we can only do grain-drops from the air). And you? You sit in your cumbling bedsit crying over the ills of the world and never wanting to enjoy the sun, smile at a nice girl, experience the glee of a new gadgetary toy - because that'd make you a liar and a hypocrite?

Have fun with that!

On thing that bothered me was when Gazza was clearly losing the plot, and he went loopy in a hotel...

Then on the TV and in Papers people like David Beckham and Michael Owen were saying how gazza was so inspirational to them when they were young, and that they hope he could find help to get better etc. And that hes a good friend bla bla..

i thought.. "you guys get paid frickin millions, if hes such a brilliant chap, why the hell dont you spend some of your cash and time on giving him some direction and a bit of happiness in his life"

I care about my family and friends as to what goes on in another country re famine or war in Africa then I dont care. I am rather selfish, I look after myself and my family and thats it.

Because that wont help him? if all it took was money to sort the worlds wrongs then we would have no wrongs.... enough money is thrown at charities and all sorts these days to get a lot sorted, but red tape and dodgy people **** it up for the ones who need the help.

No its not the money, but people with a status like beckham or owen, could easily offer Gazza an option to give his life some direction. If they were real friends like they made out at the time, then rather than just wish the guy well, they could have actually had a shot at helping him out.

You don't seem to understand. Taking him into one of their houses and letting him live with them, or whatever, wont help him. There is more to it than just being an alcoholic ;]

I must admit, I care about very little. Only close family and close friends. If someone like an old school friend died I probably wouldn't give it a second thought. Anything I read in the paper or see on TV doesn't bother me emotionally at all. My girlfriend say's Im heartless. My brother-in-law who's a copper say's it's the sign of a psycho... :p

If you ask the average person about something like, say...child abuse, animal cruelty, suffering in general, they would say they care about it, they think it's bad and that it needs to stop.

But do they actually care?
No most people do not really care although it's socially unacceptable to say so. Although as many people often revert to mindless sheep mode they just repeat what other people/what they've heard on tv/internet without really forming their 'own' opinion.

Oh and I personally find the whole animal rights thing gets pretty boring :o. I mean I'm against cruelty but other than that I can't really claim to care about animals I mean I eat them for enjoyment...
