How can any game brought out beat WOW with 11m players
Every mmo that comes out gets accused of being a WOW clone, AOC was different and died on its bum.
WOW has 11m players because it is a quality game, the only game that may beat WOW could be WOW2 but why make another game with 11m paying players.
WOW a "quality" game - don't confuse popularity with quality.
The reason WOW is so popular is because it was easy to just pick up and play - no real learning curve to speak of.
It's graphics are acceptable and above all it is relatively easy.
You don't need to spend very long with the game to get to the high levels and you can "max" characters out in a matter of weeks.
Today's players are lazy and want to get as high as they can as quickly as they can - they aren't really interested in the journey (not all, but a majority).
UO, although not the easiest game to get into is still untouchable from a gameplay point of view.
You were given so much freedom in the game, you could do as you pleased.
The more you put into the game the more you got out of it.
You couldn't stand in one place gaining XP to level and then increase a skill that you hadn't used.
If you wanted to increase a skill you had to actually use that skill and on progressively difficutl targets.
You actually felt you were being rewarded for playing the game.
The games of today, WOW, etc are all XP based.
You can simply do the same things over and over, gain XP at some silly rate, increase skills even if you don't use them and before you know it you've got a maxed out character and your in the "end game".
MMORPG's don't need to be graphically stunning.
Give us an updated UO with graphics akin to WOW, WAR etc and you will have a potential WOW beater.
I say potential because there are a lot of people who want the quick, easy and lazy route in the game, something WOW gives, but UO certainly didn't.
