just a moan really, recently i spent about £1000 on upgrades to my pc, Phenom 9950 , 8gb ram 2 4870 cards in crossfire, 1000w psu, all watercoled and the games still play like crap.

example.

stalker clear sky

with setting at high, i get approx 10-20fps @ 1920x1200 that gradually grinds to a halt, crashes to desktop and genrally full of bugs, updated to 1 patch then another now my save games won't load cannot be arsed to start again £30 down the drain.

i searched for "stalker clear sky poor performance" and even wikipedia has a thing all about it, stalkers forum is down all the time also.

most other games crash or don't support crossfire or quad core cpu's.

so i gunna use my uber pc to surf the net and get emails and buy a games console.

even new titles recommended spec is blah blah ... and you need 5 times that to play it, just sick of lazy programmers who rush the game out then have you wasting hours tweaking the game and looking around on fourms for help on how to get it running.

spec wise which is the one to get ps3 xbox 360 i aint bothered about blu ray just best spec, must support 1080p due to my screen size.

also are any new consoles due soon.

Why in the world did you pay 30quid for stalker i got it for 15quid ! yes brand new.

Works fine on my pc, ok i havnt got everything on super duper high. but meh it still looks dam good.

As for new consoles unlikely

tbh I think you are completely over reacting. If you are having that much trouble with game performance and stability then you need to learn how to setup a new build...

Stick with PC gaming as console games are usually much worse. Stalker Clear Sky is not a good example at all. There are so many upcoming PC games coming out and most will not have performance issues plus will look stunning.

I have X360 + PS3 and most games are so poor you would not believe it compared to the PC version.

Think of the PC as the next generation of gaming but available now. Current PS3/360 games have issues with FPS, screen tearing, low res textures, bugs which require downloads to fix, lengthy loading times so do not think you can just get a console + game and all is ok. This is unlikely to change much as the time to optimise games so they run smoothly & bug free is very expensive so almost every new release has some kind of technical issue. At least PC games can be fixed with patching vs console games can only have minor fixes.

PC is the most advanced gaming machine there is.

Oh noes! 1 game doesn't work! boo hoo!

Oddly, my humble little system has no issues with anything I throw at it. Hmmmm....

This is one reason I have stayed away from Crossfire and SLI, it's worth it in some cases, and not in others....normally the later.

But even the original Stalker had performance issues, although I managed to make it run fine on my current setup with an x1900xtx.

What other games have you tried?

Otherwise I'll nab the mobo and cpu off your hands ;)

Oh and you say watercooled...So its just water cooled? Watercooling doesn't miracuously increase performance, unless you clock the components its connected to...Naturally.

Heeeeeeyyyyyy i had first dibs on his kit ! first come first serve ;) :D

But yea what this guy above me said about watercooling is your cpu clocked gpu clocked ? you said water cooling but havent said what parts are water cooled.

Why on earth did you buy a phenom?

The only time I'd go the AMD cpu route at the moment would be when I'd gone temporarily insane.

And this is from someone that up until my latest 2 PC builds had used only AMD processors when purchasing PCs.

Aren't Phenoms better when not clocked compared to Intels?

I can't say I've compared so I wouldn't know.

A few more reasons to stay with PC (although some of these are also available on console)

Fallout 3,
Left 4 Dead,
Dead Space,
C&C Red Alert 3,
Far Cry 2,
Demigod,
F.E.A.R 2,
Diablo 3.

I have a PC and a 360, best of both worlds. :)

update your hardware a couple of months after the game you want to play is out, this way the game will be patched and will probably be cheaper and you'll have real benchmarks as to what hardware to buy.

i've been using this principle since my 386 DX days and Doom2.

Stalker CS plays happy for me at 4200x1024, spec below

gutted for you that you've upgraded and not seen the performance you were expecting :(

What a stupid thread. You moan and cry that you can't play absolute bleeding edge PC's are a monsterously high resolution and then decide the answer is to buy an Xbox 360 or a PS3 - which are all LOWER resolution?

I think your problem is one of expectation and the fact you simply threw money at a PC upgrade without neccesarily doing the required research first to make sure you bought the right kit. I mean seriously, a grand on an upgrade? And a Phenom?

My spec is nothing like yours as I've not upgraded yet and every game I play on my PC is considerably better and smoother than any game I play on my 360, which is hooked up to the same screen.

Looking online, it seems to be about the same performance as a Q6600 at stock, though the Q6600 is a tad bit cheaper.

It's not as awful as I at first thought but once you factor in overclockability it quickly becomes a bad choice.

Yip, if your clocking, Intels are better, but I've not had an Intel yet, So I don't know from personal experience :)

I'm still running my trusty old X2...Still packs a nice punch though :)

well i can buy your stalker for 10 £ if you like

ps: why did u not go for intel cpu even q6600 is better what u have now
