Would You Buy An Apple Gaming Console?

The thing is the console market was nowhere near as gargantuan then as it is now. The cost of developing games and the amount of consoles bought by consumers were a mere fraction of what they are now and therefor the amount of experience and money required to get your foot in the door has grown significantly. Just compare the costs between Sony getting into the console market and Microsoft, iirc Microsoft are still paying off their losses now!

MS approached it in a bad way, if Apple had made the Wii (pennies to develop and make) then they'd have easily cracked it.

That's an interesting point and i can see where you're coming from. I guess i agree actually, what microsoft needed to do was not copy that which already existed and was very successful (the PS2) but create something that would bring a new idea to the market.

Problem is, what else could Apple come up with? VR helmets? :D

Like anything else they do whatwever they came up with they'd make sure it was microscopically thinner than other products and market it like it was some kind of revolution.

Ever watch macworld? I think jobs gets wood from announcing something they made is .25 of an inch thinner a year later.

But i wouldn't rule out a 4th platform that was generic. A sort of openish platform. Apple can distribute through AppleTV, maybe LG through TV's etc. If the API's where similar enough i can imagine it happening.

Look how massive the mobile phone gaming market is, because there are a lot of companies making the devices. There is room for a casual gamer market for 10 quid games.
Look at all the ports to xbox live and PSN, like DN3D, Doom etc etc. Now think how many people would buy Sonic for say seven from their TV or set top box? And like i said, if you make all the API's standard or very similar so not much work goes into porting, i think something like AppleTV with the iPhone/iPod touch, could give the live arcade, Wii channel, PSN a run for it's money
The market is definatly there.

This is exactly the kind of thing i was thinking of tbh, I probably should have made that clearer. I really don't think they would compete with PS3 or 360 etc. But if they had something a bit like Apple TV (think that's the name of it) but it could play small arcady style games, like you get on PSN or XBL, and have an iTunes style distrobution system for content then it could be something different and something quite good.

Not a chance, i can imagine the spin jobs would pull out of his arse to promote it.

"OOH ITS THINNER THEREFORE ITS BETTER WOOWOOO"

Plus the potential Apple console fanboys... Jesus Christ, the mere thought makes the current console fanboys look like angels.

"BUT ITS COSMETICALLY AND AESTHETICALLY SUPERIOR SO SHUT THE **** UP" 'sips on starbucks coffee'

Second thoughts, I probably wouldn't buy one now.

Yeah, you've changed my mind too. Bloody Apple fanboys and their crap console! :p

I would predict (along side Iphone games), the only possiblity would be Apple and Nintendo joining forces.

If Nintendo had Apple advertising skills then the N64 and Ga,ecube would be gargantuan hits, and the Wii would probably have sold another 10 million and be sold at 30% higher cost.

If anything will ever make 360 and PS3 fanboys unite, it's the inclusion of an Apple console to the fray. We'd get sick of them before they would even begin to open their smug mouths.

Nah,
Honestly? I just think macs are queer and do not think apple suits itself with games.

Maybe a media center but PS & 360 already got that area covered even in the current gen.
