I have to echo what has been said here. My dad and I test drove a brand new S3 followed by a used RS4 (both the latest versions), and although we both loved the S3, he never intended to buy one because it was just too expensive for what it was. In their price bracket, you can get all kinds of cars if you're willing to buy used.
He settled on the RS4 in the end, but the dealership couldn't source him a used Avant model and he still hasn't bought one

Dare I say it Focus RS . This is how a hot hatch should look IMO. BMW looks like any other 1 series. Same for the Golf GTI & S3 which any S-Line looks v.similar. 300BHP out of the box, wonder what the chip markers have in store!!

Neither! They're extremely close to the limits of FWD with that amount of power. I understand they have some sort of special Diff on it, but still. If I had 300BHP to play with, I'd want it through all four wheels or the rears.

A much better post than "FWD
". The focus seems to handle power quite nicely so lets hope a little more power isn't a problem.
It has been styled for the 'discerning Fast Ford enthusiast'.

As Fox said really. Basically the GTI has less weight over the front end and is therefore nimbler and more fun. It's nearly as fast as the R32, costs less to buy new, and a lot less to buy second hand.
I like the styling of both the S3 and R32. Even the figures are impressive, but, echoing other peoples comments, i wouldn't be able to spend 26k+options on one when i see things like M3's/STI's/S4's going for £15k.
