Murray in Madrid final.

he won in St Petersburg last year so has some points to defend and because he has already entered, he would actually get a penalty for withdrawing this late.

ahhh I hadnt realised they got penalised for withdrawing late - although I guess it makes sense

At least he should get a by for the first round of each (giving him a day's break at least)

Murray says Henman is still better so far :).

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7679206.stm

Andy Murray says he still has a long way to go to match the achievements of Tim Henman, despite winning his second Masters Series title on Sunday.

Tim was definitely much, much better than me," said Murray.

"Over eight or nine years he was in the top 10, always playing well in Wimbledon, making the semi-finals in all the Grand Slams (except the Australian Open).

Our pint proven ;)

Hahah very nice. I did actually see a picture of one of them earlier on thinking it was a 1 off. Didn't realise there was like 20 though!

Murray is on fire at the moment, next year could be big for him as long as he stays injury free.

This year for Murray has been quite similar to Djokovic's year last year. Both won 2 Masters titles (Murray can still add to his tally in Paris next week). Also, they both beat the players ranked 1, 2 and 3 over the course of the season (although Djokovic managed to beat all three in one tournament last year). And they both reached the final of the US Open.

The only real difference is that Murray has been less consistent in the Grand Slams. Djokovic reached threee SFs and a final last year, while Murray has been less consistent, but has improved as the year has gone on.

It will be interesting to see whether Murray can keep this kind of form going and then push on and acheive what Djokovic has this year, in 2009.

Do you not think that Djokovic since he won the Aussie open hasn't been as good this season...I mean Wimbledon he looked poor and went out early, French he didn't do to well and us open he got to the quarters i think? But other smaller ATP tournaments he hasn't looked that good lately. He has disopointed a bit since he won the aussie tounre for sure, everyone was saying how he was going to take nadals no: 2 spot in the rankings after the Aussie open, look how it ended up. I think it won't be long before Murray is seriously challenging Djok for that no 3 spot.

Apart from Wimbledon, he hasn't really had a bad year. It's just that he's reached plenty of QFs, SFs and finals, but only won 3 events. That's pretty good, considering those 3 events are a Grand Slam and two Masters Series. The trouble is that he's won nothing since May, so you have to look a fair way back to see where he last won a title.

It just so happens that Djokovic's form dipped a bit at the same time that Murray's started to rise, so its hard to compare them to each other ATM. A better idea of where Murray is at compared to Djokovic would only be apparent at the start of next year, when they should both be refreshed.

It's easy to be the best serve and volley when all the top players in the world play from the baseline.

This is true but Henman was a fantastic serve and volley player irrespective of this and I'm almost certain would have been better regarded had he been born 20 years earlier in an era where it was considered de rigeur to serve and volley. It would be easy to disregard his results (or lack of them) because he didn't win a Grand Slam event but that would be to do him a disservice, the regard for which his fellow professionals held his game ought to tell you a bit about how good he was.

I don't deny it. He was the very good at serve and volley and was probably the best at it, but the other, better, baseline players had him as fodder, his game played entirely to their strengths.

My point about Murray having better shot selection and being better, stronger and faster is because Murray does have a plan B. He can serve and volley if needs be (not as well as Henman), but he can play as well as anyone in the World from the baseline. Outside of Henmans Serve and Volley he was next to useless from the baseline and therefore had no plan B.

I think we're (all) talking slightly at cross purposes here, Murray does have a more complete game but Henman was not a poor player by any stretch which was an initial point you made. Pigeon_Killer then pointed out that Henman was much better at the net than Murray is currently and better than he probably ever will be which is also true. In almost every other area you're right Murray is superior (temperament is debateable possibly as it can backfire) but I'd prefer to wait until his career is over to see if he has fulfilled his obvious potential.

Murray just keeps on winning a good result tonight. I do wonder how much longer he can go on, he must be getting a we bit tired now.

Well done for AM winning today - but as noted considering the calibre of the other player , he really should have won

The best news about today was that it was a very quick/easy match, so AM is well rested for the Paris Masters next week (starting tomorrow, although AM has a bye until 2nd round), which will be a real test considering he has a very difficult draw
