heh - nice disclaimer. I like the globe one. The question I have is: Is the softness of the image indicative of the lens overall 1.4 performance? My 1.8 is markedly sharper at 1.8 and gets even better once stopped down. I think the comments from both myself and some of the others here is that with the fiddy we expect some real sharpness and your shots go against that trend.

Don't for a moment think that I am questioning your ability as a photographer, it's just that these photos buck the trend a bit. (i.e. normally your photography is excellent)

Zuiko 50mm

I use an Olympus OM Zuiko 50 f1.8 on a Canon EOS 20D. At £5 it has to be the best bargain i've ever had.

At f1.8 ISO-400

At f4 ISO-800

At f8 ISO-200

I think the lens can be and is sharper, apart from stopping down to get it shaper...like i said.......no ship shelock :p, and also defeats the purpose of the 1.4 "feature". If you look at the globe, the focus is actuall a little behind "Australia" but on the starbucks reflection. I have shot with 1.8 and 2.0 using this lens, not to acheive a sharper result, but to give a deeper DOF as 1.4 is really thin and easily miss what you are aiming for. Also, i am totally in love with the bokeh in this lens, much much nicer than the 1.8.

Another photo I found taken with my 50mm:

One of the first photos I took and was hand held with slow shutter, so forgive the blur :). Still like the image though!

Some great shots in this thread. I'm feeling a little ashamed at only using mine three times!

Stuggling to find any photos online that I used the 50 for but here is one.....

The first shot is clearly Banister Cat's Long Separated Cousin... and the second shot is tact sharp and absolutely gorgeous little cat. I want her. By the way, put them on LOL Cat thread in GD, they are gonna be raking in the cute captions... maybe.

LOL...cheers, will post on that thread. 2nd Shot is Lily she is nearly 7mths.:)
