*** Red Alert 3 ***

As you can see gfx are horrible. Its like EA went back into the Chronosphere to make them!!

I loved and bought on release all the other PC C&C games (except for Renegade which I bought later but do not care much for). I even liked Generals & C&C3. But this game to me looks terrible EA should have just gone down the same route as C&C3 instead of making everything into a cartoon. You get used to it but it sure does look ugly:(

These shots are 1920x1200 max gfx as well. FMVs are saving the day as they are the same style as RA1 & 2 (well OTT with plenty of babes:D).

I'm seriously disliking the building graphics, the water enviroment is very nice. characters don't look that great either... Maybe I'm just holding onto ra2 and ra1 too much lol

i cant concentrate on the mission briefings either, and the fmv scenes during the missions keep putting me off too :(

i failed the first allied mission because of bloody gemma atkinson's short skirt

nope its awful, its so incredibly flat and very uninspired. The water does look quite superb but who cares. the units, buildings and landscape all look utter turd.

That IGN review is embarassing. The music, so far seems to be so generic and dull, the first 2-3 C&C's had great music that actually seemed to change far more often. Not sure what level I was doing but felt like it was the same damn tune the entire level and was really irritating.

presentation value? the menu's look like a childs game, the video while supposedly high value and campey isn't actually any good. The reason, for instance, that the campey style of the early few games with Kane in were so good was because the script and the story was very well put together, and frankly the video now was of no higher quality except in bitrate than back then. Its not expensive video, like I said the russian vid is on the same set they've been using for a decade. That room is probably in the basement of the building of the designers of the game unchanged for 10 years. 9.5, i think not.

Graphics, a 5.... maybe, except for the water could almost pass for a good looking game 5-10 years ago.

Music, repetitive and the best tune is one from the original thats marginally different and now overused..4

Gameplay 6 and most of that comes from simply liking the franchise. Its simply far far to easy and the AI hasn't shown a lick of inteligence so far, not even close.

Lasting appeal, 3, 30 seconds into the game I wanted to nuke EA headquarters for making such a joke of such a fantastic franchise, only playing through for the sake of loving C&C.

I'm not completely sure what every one is expecting from the graphics side of the game agreed which ever developer or graphics designer made the water graphics doesn’t have a life because it looks sweet. But generally graphics in most of the commander conquer games haven’t been amazing. Plus did anyone look at the screen shots before buying the game as I'm running everything in the highest detail and it looks like the screen shots... so I guess what I'm trying to say is ..if you researched the game and didn’t like what you saw why did you buy the game.

I will accept the answer the hot women.... and you hoped the game would be as good :D:D

I don't like the look of it. I hate EA for trashing the c&c series (apart from RA3, respect :D ). Tiberium Wars sucked imo and RA3 looks much the same. I hope im wrong.

I don't care that the graphics do suck, however because you expect them to suck doesn't make them worth a 9.5 purely for some pretty water.

But in all honesty, its the design that sucks. THe walls are all so flat, its like something from a game 10 years ago, there is, up till now, simply no terraine, everythings flat as can be. Walls and buildings look generic flat textured crap. The terraine "effects" are just a few repeated patterns that aren't actually any good, the tree's are dodgey, the units aren't very high detail and simply don't look very cool. THe freaking lightsaber's.

It doesn't have to be technically superior graphically, but they could have done far more if they focused the design making good looking units and less stupid looking, "we've watched far to much transformers recently" buildings rather than ***** all their graphical power on, well, water effects.

But the problem past all of that is, gameplay, carbon copy missions. The same mix of a sniper mission here and there where you run in, destroy this or that, use the same weapons, swim out to c4 some boats. THe ruski first mission is all but a complete copy of, i think it was RA2's intro, might have been a different C&C game, she comes in to an island, kills a few guys, swims out to blow up 4 boats.

Its not cool to hate it, its just crap.

AS for screenshots, as I said, frankly it doesn't matter how it looks AS LONG AS IT PLAYS WELL. however when you make a crap game, having generic crappy graphics isn't exactly going to help raise your opinion of it.

But then lets be honest, a 10/10 game rarely doesn't have it on all fronts, a 9/10 game rarely has crap graphics, its PART of what makes a good game. We move on in life, while Mario 1 on the NES would be nice to play again once for historical value, its so basic, easy and looks like death as a brand new game everyone would laugh at it. Likewise if a brand new FPS came out with Wolfeinstein3D quality enemies to kill it just wouldn't feel right. You can say graphics mean completely nothing, but you can't have a truly epic game without somewhat decent graphics. Not every game has to be fantastic though. Overlord isn't great looking but is fantastic fun to play, not the usual game I would have gotten at all, its no 10/10 game, but its fun. This however is not.

It's cnc3 meets battle realms, great game 6 years ago but not now.
But then I measure all RTS with company of heroes.

The DRM is quite lenient tbh (compared to other recent games that use it). You can activate it on 5 different machines and it gives you unlimited installs on each one.

What about the governments ID cards, you happy with them? Sure, they'll have all your DNA and details in a database, but you aren't a criminal, so what does it matter?

Unfortunately I was tied up and only managed to get to the launch event in London at 8:55.

It was a big domey thing, about 40 Dell XPS systems all with Red Alert 3 on them and a few X360's in the middle with it playing too.
At the other end of the structure they had a stage and a screen. Looked like it was good, shame I couldn't make it.

Didn't manage to get a goodie bag either. *Pouts*
