Spend more dollar where? Depends if you want a .com or .co.uk?
As I say, I use www.123-reg.co.uk, do some searching on there for something you'd like. That's the first step, get the domain, then we can help with setting up Google Apps. Someone might be able to advise a better place for .coms though...

Standard Gmail interface (which is ace), also, you can enable POP3 and IMAP so you can pick it up through a mail client of your choice.
Ah yer, I see-sweet thanks dude, and if iam correct you can use gmail interface with the iPhone mail app?
As Mr.Clark said, but if you cant remember that long link, you can set up a subdomain, like "mail.jimmy.com" and it will take you to "https://mail.google.com/a/jimmy.com"
If you own your own domain you'll either get a cpanel for your webmail or a page to login to it if its just a mailbox thing like http://gmail.com but with your own domain.

Everything will be clearly laid out once you log-in to the admin control panel for your domain.
