US ELECTION RESULTS THREAD...

An amazing result fro Obama and for the U.S.

He's young and inexperienced but he's intelligent and articulate, more than can be said for the current resident of the White House.

McCain was up against it to be honest, Bush had the lowest approval rating of any President since records began, I think the economic crash was the nail in the coffin. As for Palin

Obama doesn't come from a privilidged background like Bush, he's not part of the U.S. elite. Bush and his cronies (Haliburton/Cheney) have become rich off the back of the War in Iraq.

"Yes we can"

He's a breath of fresh air, I wish we had somebody like him in the U.K. rather than the current dross we have to vote for!

Anybody just see GMTV? - its a pub party in South Kensington and live on TV a streaker came past.
30 seconds later a bloke holds something up in front of the camera and the reporter pushes him out of the way.
Fiiiiight.

Wow, it was all about image. Congratulations to Obama, although I think in the long run many Americans will come to see it isn't the beginning of some era of super-happiness for the US. He's inheriting the US in one of the worst conditions possible, with the economy and image of the country in tatters.

All I seem to hear is "With McCain, America would be standing still for another 4 years. With Obama its moving forward..". How? Other than the first black president, what is or is going to be so revolutionary?

Republicans and Democrats have very different ways of doing many things (not all). Considering the state of things right now the only way is up.

Expect the same Blue and Red result in the UK general election.... bub bye Mr Brown... don't let the door hit you in your fat ass on the way out.

Lets hope Obama wasnt all false promises. Would be fantastic to see some change. woots time for at least a half decent president that might actually know what he is doing :p

yay

Time will tell, time will tell.

But the Americans WANT that change, and they are willing to take a chance on a 47 year old Senator from Illonis than anyone else. I think it is a view that we ought to respect, that they are willing to take that chance. Progress is nothing without trying.

His victory also gives Americans hope, which has almost gone in the 8 years of Bush's adminstration, he gives them that hope, the sense of light is at the end of the tunnel.

If only we had an Obama to vote for to replace Brown, all we've got is David Cameron, great :(

Obama isn't going to be able to "fix the economy" for example, it's going to be a long slog, I think Oboma has indicated as much.

Congrats to Obama, even though we all knew the result weeks ago :)

Now who's opening the betting on which country he goes to war with first

Nope I think the politics of fear has gone, he's not a War Monger like Bush.

Hopefully this is the biggest "knock on effect", the change in Foreign Policy will be one of the major benefits for the rest of the world.

Result. Like everyone else is saying time will tell, but the simple fact that people are positive about their country again is half the battle won.

the rest of the world seems genuinely pleased...celebrations in germany and paris...lets face it I think we are all just relieved to see the back of Bush
