The Countdown Has Begun...... Fallout 3

Could anyone tell me how the hell do I repair my weapons?
I have put a few skill points in it but when I'm in my inventory I can see the "R) Repair" but it is always greyed out.

I'm always breaking my weapons :(

This has been answered many times in this thread.

Ive been playing this game like i play a mmo for the first few weeks... every second of the day i can possibly squeeze in (which is about 5 hours).

There was a point where i thought i was getting bored but that only lasted over night then i got right back into it!
It really is so much more than Oblivion, i quickly got bored of going into the same old dungeons with Oblivion but Fallout 3 seems to have been designed much better.

Was tempted to get the perk that makes enemies explode :D Next time I level up I guess.
I have that one, only disadvantage is that sometimes when they meet a slug out of my shotgun the bits are so small and scattered that it makes it very hard to loot the corpse as it can be hard to find :o

I also found that there are even more sidequests not mentioned in the quests in the pip-boy, so far I rescued 3 tied-up prisoners from Super Mutants and a initiate soldier from a building, all of them were found while doing other missions.

Another question, what gun can I use to repair my Xuanlong Assault Rifle

is that the chinese assault rifle? only another one of the same type as with the other weapons - i've come across some super mutants carrying them but they are few and far between. the worst for me is the combat shotgun, it's my favourite weapon but is always broken as i've not found anyone who carries one yet :(

re the side quests, there are loads of office buildings i've found too with stuff in that aren't marked on the map, i've just done the LBI (or something similar) building full of protectrons and some sentry robot thing that fired missiles

Further into the game you will find more and even early on you will find loads by exploring. Traders at Rivet city sell some of these weapons. I would max repair skill which allows you to repair a weapon to 100% by combining weapons of the same type and also increases damage. It is also a good way to reduce weight as it best to combine /repair all the weapons of the same type as a weapons value is totally dependent on condition.

Forgot to mention, is running sweet at 1920x1080, on the highest settings, makes a change from my old computer which probabley wouldn't of ran it on lowest res and settings, lol.

I have never really understood repair :p

So if I have a Combat Shotgun which is damaged...all I need is another Combat Shotgun and then click R for repair?:o

I think so, what was the repair system like in Oblivion?? I know in morrowind you would use tools like hammers and tongs to repair things, which would have a number of times you could use them to repair before they are used up.

Yep repair hammers in obvlivion..

I have been paying the merchants to repair mine...oh the money I could have saved...

In saying that my repair skill is crap.

Yes, you can use the parts from the one in the worst condition to repair the other, the higher your repair skill the better the condition will be.

So always pick up guns from people you kill, even if it means you will be over-encumbered and straight after that repair your gun with the one you picked up, that makes your gun better and uses up the other.

Alternatively you can let traders do this, but it will cost you caps and most are limited to repairing to ~50%

I think I also found a reason why I sometimes have a CTD/Error, strangely it usually happens whenever I face a locked door and someone sees me and says 'that is locked for a reason' that is the moment my screen blacks out and I get booted form the game

yeah not got to rivet city yet - keep getting distracted :D

Ugh, having a bit of a case of oblivion-itis with this game. I love the graphics, the combat, the environment etc, but the dialogue bores me to tears so bad that I just have to quit.

I just got to Megaton and it seems like everyone has a crapload of uninterested drivel to spout, and the worst thing is that you have to go through every single dialogue line if you want to make sure you got the quest or whatever.

It's like... the game gives you a choice whether to be good or evil when you choose what to say, but then after you've said it you can just click on "ask another question" and then take the complete opposite approach, so nothing you say has anyt significance and itis all just a matter of flushing out the whole dialogue tree so that you get everything from the characters. Just so incredibly tedious and boring and is the reason why I didn't last more than 2 hours on Oblivion.

How do you expect dialogue to work then?

This works fine for me, as did Mass Effect and The Witcher.

Do you take this same aprouch in real life. Do you just wish you could click through peoples conversations? Why are you playing RPG's if you don't like speech? I personnally think its got some of the best dialogue of any game. Theres lots of swearing but in this case the swearing actually works. Its not as if they just sprinkled in some bad words here and there to look cool. You should listen to some of the conversation between other NPC's. The best one is a lady ghoul in the underworld. When you walk past she burps and says ooh that tasted better earlier :D
