The Countdown Has Begun...... Fallout 3

Its probably obvious, but how the heck do you switch on the light on the PipBoy? I've checked the controls and character mapping, but theres no mention of a light.

Anyone know of any tranders in the game with a good supply of ammo? I'm barely scraping by at the moment and have over 2k caps to spend.

Depending of what type of ammo you're after the best way is to just fight enemies that use the same kind of ammo. Super Mutants for bullets, frag grenades and missiles, Enclave for plasma and laser rounds and Talon Company for a mixture of both.

Remember that you can go to Canterbury Commons and expand the merchant caravan inventories if you invest caps, speak to Uncle Roe when you get there. Someone else already mentioned Rivet City which is a good source, as well as The Citadel quartermaster if you are far enough in to the main quest. It's a shame you can't craft your own ammo in FO3 like you can in NV. :)

Have reached level 8, about halfway to level 9. Have only one mission left to do for the Survival Guide. Also have the quest from 3 Dog to get the satalite dish from the museam and am currently on the Blood Ties quest. Its getting easier over time as my skills are going up. My ammo supply is still far from perfect, but I usually have enough to get by. I also got the pristine nuka-cola machine for my Megaton house. Its nice to be able to turn all my nuka-colas into Ice Cold nuka-colas :D

And I found Dogmeat in the junkyard! I looooove my little doggy companion! :3

Seeing this thread resurrected is making me go all nostalgic. Such a good game, took 250 hours of my life and I don't regret a single minute.

I am loving this game. Have got loads done. I finished the Survival Guide. I wiped out the fire ants and found the surviving kid a place to stay with his aunt. I took out a small town full of cannibals. I protected the android in Rivet City from the Commonwealth guys. I found the formula for nuka-cola clear and sold it to an ice hockey team. I went back to Vault 101 and helped resolve the feud there (even if Amata did kick me out afterwards :( ) And I fought a Vault full of clones called Gary. Epic stuff :D

Need to get around to getting back to the main story at some point though. I've got to the stage where I need to go get the G.E.C.K from the Vault.

Hey,

Apologies for the mega bump - I only started playing Fallout 3 last week, for the first time :p

As I understand it, finishing the final mission will cause the credits to roll, but I want to do a lot more exploring, side quests, DLC etc. I have the GOTY edition on Steam, and so far have not activated any of the DLC data files from the launcher.

I'm thinking I should activate all the DLC apart from Broken Steel, finish all that stuff, then activate BS and carry out the final mission of the main FO3 story. Does that sound right?

Cheers,

Su

Yes without Broken Steel the game finishes when you end the main quest. Just activate them all now, it wont cause any issues since Broken Steel won't kick in till after the standard game ends.

Just out of curiosity, anyone ever had their FalloutPrefs.ini file grow extremly large ?? Been having some problem starting Fallout 3 and was checking different files when I noticed the FalloutPrefs.ini was rather massive, at 9,82 MB , opening it with Notepad++ and scrolling to the end it has 495,616 lines of code !! Looking through the code randomly it seems like it have added the original 120 or so lines over and over again. No wonder the game wouldn't start for me, it must gotten slightly more confussed then normally, being a Betsheda game and all. :p

Removing it and restarting game I got it working again. But yeah, was just curious if anyone else had something similar happen to them with F3 ??

I bought this in a steam sale about a year ago to re-live the nostalgia but nothing I've tried has even got it working on windows 8.1/10. Same for New Vegas, which I've never even played.

Cool thanks man - do you know if the game kicks into "free roam mode" after the Broken Steel DLC is done?

There are a bunch of issues with FO3 and multi-core CPUs, might be worth trying some of the fixes - this guy got it working for example.

Cheers,
