***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

only people who will like this game that much are graphics whores.

Considering the graphics are the flaw most reviews have picked up on (looks a little outdated in certain aspects), I don't know what you're on about. Still, keep moaning if you like.

Guys whats the command to get the console thingy up and the server command to find the pings cos ive had no games without lag since launch and it's really game breaking for me :(

Can't seem to ever get good games - i.e. decent players and a server <500ms ping :(

Add me to steam please friendly OCUK'ers! :D User: Vtec9k

good games there with Rob, Lyon and marko first time ive been able to pla the game without my conn troubles :)

BTW for anyone in the same boat i think the problem for me is that i was running the game from a shortcut of the l4d.exe. Today i deleted the shortcut and only launched the game from within steam.

I played the demo and got bored after about 4 runs through and have watched the game played through on justin tv 4 player podcast and couldn't believe how shallow and short it was.

Fallout 3 goty this doesn't even come close only people who will like this game that much are graphics whores.

This game reminds me in a way of world in conflict everyone was like wow this is the best game ever but after everyone got over the graphics soon realised it was about as deep as a puddle.

The graphics in L4D are worse than Fallout 3 though so I don't know what you're on about with that! Seriously, it's the source engine.

And Fallout 3 is boring. It takes six hours to get anywhere and by the time you have you've been eaten by dog/bandit/radscorpion/insertnameofrandompointlesscreaturehere. Since when did boredom become fun? Oh yeah, we have MMORPGs to thank for that!

I can actually see where you're coming from though; although I'm really enjoying the game, I'm worried that it might get old pretty fast. I've always disliked having to re-run games because of a lack of linear content, but we'll see.

I've seen a few individuals on separate forums argue for how rubbish it is. I'm all for not believing in hype and have been annoyed and dissapointed with many of the games that have been hyped. Before this came out I was not hyped at all it just looked like some rubbish zombie game. I've played the demo and I know a good game when I see one, this is one.

All the arguments I've seen here and elsewhere are strawmen arguments. All they amount to are the graphics are rubbish true(compared to crysis and all else but they are adequate), the animation though is excellent(how often do you see peoples faces move as well as they, do in other games, even crysis). The other one is it'll get repetitive and samey. Well they've sorted that with the director. I guess with infinite play throughs(or maybe less) you might start to see patterns and it'll become predictable(isnt that the same for most games, though, but then you've got the verses. The other is it lacks a story, thank goodness for that. I am fed up with listening to stories I've already heard, which are better in movies, I can get down to playing and experiencing things for myself in this.

As for the lengths, I look at them as vignettes from movies, like the best scenes, which you play through over again to see all the variations that may play out. They may not be long played through from beginning to end. Its not about the journey its about the journey's.

Its a game which is all about the gameplay and providing unique experiences. I feel sorry for those people who cant appreciate how ground breaking it is. I suggest you go back to your call of duty, and quantum of solace fps's, where the experience is highly orchestrated and designed for only one playthrough.

I just hope enough people do see how ground breaking Left 4 dead is, and that enough buy it, so that developers start to take note. Then we might end up with a few more games that arent linear, boring, predictable, drivel.

dont know if this has been said but do the graphics on this game remind anyone of Kingpin - Life of Crime? with all its built up/run down areas and the good old developer console :p
