Fallout 3 goty this doesn't even come close only people who will like this game that much are graphics whores.
This game reminds me in a way of world in conflict everyone was like wow this is the best game ever but after everyone got over the graphics soon realised it was about as deep as a puddle.
I've seen a few individuals on separate forums argue for how rubbish it is. I'm all for not believing in hype and have been annoyed and dissapointed with many of the games that have been hyped. Before this came out I was not hyped at all it just looked like some rubbish zombie game. I've played the demo and I know a good game when I see one, this is one.
All the arguments I've seen here and elsewhere are strawmen arguments. All they amount to are the graphics are rubbish true(compared to crysis and all else but they are adequate), the animation though is excellent(how often do you see peoples faces move as well as they, do in other games, even crysis). The other one is it'll get repetitive and samey. Well they've sorted that with the director. I guess with infinite play throughs(or maybe less) you might start to see patterns and it'll become predictable(isnt that the same for most games, though, but then you've got the verses. The other is it lacks a story, thank goodness for that. I am fed up with listening to stories I've already heard, which are better in movies, I can get down to playing and experiencing things for myself in this.
As for the lengths, I look at them as vignettes from movies, like the best scenes, which you play through over again to see all the variations that may play out. They may not be long played through from beginning to end. Its not about the journey its about the journey's.
Its a game which is all about the gameplay and providing unique experiences. I feel sorry for those people who cant appreciate how ground breaking it is. I suggest you go back to your call of duty, and quantum of solace fps's, where the experience is highly orchestrated and designed for only one playthrough.
I just hope enough people do see how ground breaking Left 4 dead is, and that enough buy it, so that developers start to take note. Then we might end up with a few more games that arent linear, boring, predictable, drivel.
